How is it at all possible to make a hollow pipe with the properties of a cat? If a hollow pipe works that would mean that the cat is useless on our cars?

It isn't - of course a hollow pipe works, but cats are req'd by law to meet emissions requirements.

Addition of Cat core element cuts down emissions, but at the same time also restricts flow (which tones down performance somewhat) - so open pipe is performance adder (but also smells bad & will not pass emissions)

Still in the testing phase.
Im sure they want to put tens of thousands of miles on it to make sure it wont throw a CEL.

Make it look OEM like the HJS Euro 6 catted downpipe and sell it for a lot less and they'll be on to something.
