340ix Reset Itself
I parked my car in my (private) garage Friday PM. Stayed in ALL weekend. No other occupants of this house, I'm solo.
Started car up today, Monday. Noticed my AC has "switched" to manual. Oh well, I thought, I must have hit it without realizing. Switched it back to Auto. But then at the first stop, the engine shut off. I had left ASS inactivated since I bought the car, no way I accidently hit them both. So what's up with this? Ever happen to anyone else? Some other settings I should check? Thanks. |

Thought I was losing my mind or unable to fathom the complexity of the Idrive system or something. Happened once - hasn't happened again since. Blamed it on the wife and moved on...

Could be a battery issue. I've seen this happen on my 08 135i a few times when I let it sit for a long time. I was told by the dealer that these cars have a safety feature that will shut down power to all electronics in an attempt to save enough juice for the car to start. And when you let them sit too long, or if you have a significant load on the battery like a plugged in iPod, that will kick in and cause your settings to get wiped out.
Although I have no idea if the newer cars work the same way or not. |

This happened to our two week old 320, a couple days after the adaptive suspension had triggered a chassis malfunction error. Dealer opened A puma casa and BMW found a short in one of the struts sent a short through the system. Car reset everything, so they replaced all the struts and it's been fine since

Did your radio reset or just ac and auto stop Maybe leaving it unlocked draws enough power to go into safe mode, deleting your pre sets. Back in my old 1 series, if I came back to the car within an hour, things like heated seats, ac and such would be remembered. Come more than an hour and basic things would reset. I haven't had that happen in my 340i so it seems it now has a longer cycle.

The power stays on for less than 10 minutes if you don't lock the car or code it to turn off all electronics when opening the driver door. It's not going to drain your battery in less than 10 minutes.

Plus I hit the switch (again) after turning the car off, that turns off the radio and let's the external guide lights go on for 30 seconds - and they did turn off.

It did it again today. I'm driving normally, I look down and see the bars in the AC fan speed display. As you know, when in Auto you only see one bar. Sure enough, AC has switched to Manual and again, the ASS switch light has been extinguished.
I'm calling it in. |
