Wait... are the GC's the opposite of the GT? Aka, a 4 door with LESS headroom?

Yeah, basically. But you get more "style" with the GC. That's BMW's take, anyways.

File it in the "what were (are) they thinking" category.

They are thinking $$$$. Since the F3x platform is so modular, they can make 4+ different cars for just a small increase in developmental costs.

I believe the tail on that render is too long.

Here's a spy photo and some more realistically proportioned 4 Series Gran Coupe renders based on the spy pic.

I actually do find the rear of the F30 with sunroof already a little cramped - and I'm only 5' 7". My spikey hairdo touches the lining if I stretch my neck.

Anyway, I rarely drive more than 1 passenger and if it's more than 1 the shorter ones always sit at the back.

So if I were to have the 4 series GC carrying more than 1 tall passenger... er... tough.

It's not like cars these days aren't shrinking headroom at the back... take the new A class and Evoque for instance.

Beware of BMW's hidden illusions. Because BMW personnel who work in this department are aware of the debate that they are beginning to alter the shapes of the cars.
If we take the 4er Gran Coupe prototypes it does not have the completed 4er rear end which with lights etc should further pronounce the rear , up close you can also see the double glazed rear windscreen as part of the disguise to hide some of the rear.
This is noticeable when you get very close to the car. In person the overall outline is like a mini CS Concept.
