BMW dealership paint correction service

Has anyone ever used a BMW dealers 2 or 3-step paint correction/restoration service? I'm thinking about getting it done and wanted to hear some feedback and personal experiences. Couldn't find any data online.

I can’t imagine that would be cheap and have to wonder how good they are at it. I would recommend finding a detailer shop whose main focus is on detailing. You’d likely get a better job than a dealer who probably has people who aren’t as experienced doing detailer work. Just a thought...

That sounds terrible. Like having McDonald's cater your wedding. Yeah they sell food but really?

I would not use BMW, instead do some research and find dedicated specialist in your area.

I also recommend a ceramic coating for the car if you go thru all the trouble and effort of paint correction.

I just had paint correction and Cquartz applied (400 miles on the car and still needed correction because of dealer installed swirl marks. I'm waiting for it to fully cure and its first wash, and I'll try to get some pictures up.

If you go to car shows or have friends whos cars look amazing...ask those people who does their detail work. You should be able to find someone who does quality work from word of mouth.

They use a third party detailing service. I just don't know how good it could be. Compared to other detailing places if i took it myself. BMW is charging me $100 for the two step mainly buff and compound them polish and wax no paint sealant.

Would you say I'm getting my moneys worth for that $100? My main concern is to remove swirl marks and light scratches and to restore shine to my care again.

I had a buddy once try out a $100 paint correction, car came out looking much worse then it came it. He probably used a rotary and just ran over the car tearing the paint up. Sure it was shiny but swirled everywhere and had holograms everywhere. It will take at least 5 hours to do a good paint correction. Nobody will charge u $20 an hour for that work. U meed to wash the car, clay bar, compound buff with an orbital, then polish with an orbital and then clean everything up and apply wax. Its a lot of work and you need quite a bit of tools and materials. Id stay away from cheap paint correction as it will only ruin your car. Its like cheap dental work. More issues later then what you started with.

Idk about BMW, but our detail services charge the client shop rates and only pay the detailers hourly. It ends up being 10-20% of the detail cost goes to detailers. Detailers at these places don't have the motivation to do the kind of job an independent detailer does.

100 dollars for a 2 step paint correction sounds way too cheap. Anyone who knows what they are doing is going to charge you more for their time, effort, and experience.

If BMW is just contracting out the work, you are better off contracting out yourself, at least you get to choose who you use, why pay and let BMW make that decision for you?

I think your best bet is asking people whos' cars make you say "wow that car looks amazing" They will most likely lead you down the right road.

Ok and the last thing i gotta know is how much would a full paint restoration cost at a reputable detailing shop cost me? Anyone have some recommendations in the NYC area?

How bad/good of shape is the paint currently?

Google paint correction in your area, invest some time and go meet a few of them and get some quotes. See if they treat you like just another dollar coming in, or if they are enthusiasts themselves and take pride in their work. They should be happy to show you examples of their work, before/afters etc. The ones who don't take pride in what they do will stand out like a sore thumb from the rest. The right person for the job will take all the time you need answering your questions and educating you in the process. How to take care of it properly after the correction, so you don't go thru this all over again.

I learned a lot meeting with about 5-6 different places before i made my decision on who to use. To get it done right it's not cheap, but the paint is the first thing you see when you look at any car.

Hopefully someone can chime in from NYC who can recommend specific places for you!

happy cleaning!

For $100, you will not be getting a good paint correction. Check the regional forums on this board and find local meets or BMW CCA in your area. You'll meet/find people there that can tell you the local shops that will do a good job. And most of those shops will not be able to give you an exact quote until they see the car.

I see you asked your question in the regional forum - I hope you get some responses.
You might also reach out to Larry of AMMO NYC to see if he has local detailer clients: https://www.ammonyc.com/about/

Will vary from dealer to dealer because it's all about the technique and ability of the person doing the correction. You'd likely be better off finding someone local that's excellent at detailing.

Quick Update: So I asked a few shops and they are all giving me around $180-$250 for interior and exterior detail without ceramic coating. Pretty similar to what the BMW Dealership offered.

ceramic coating is worth it...find a shop that allows you to view their work. Many detail shops are awful, leave swirls and holograms and don't give a shit

I guess we need to define "detail." A first-rate detailer charges that for a decent exterior wash job & interior cleaning. You won't get any paint correction or wax or sealant. Black Sapphire Metallic can look fantastic when prepared properly. Brand new cars can require up to 20 hours of paint correction to remove flaws introduced during vehicle prep at the dock & dealership.
