Ordering tyres from Germany

Although a little hesitant at first i took the plunge and ordered a set of 18" 405 M sport wheels in black and winter tyres from Leebmann.
Paid through Paypal just in case there were any issues. Received an email the following morning informing me the wheels were in short supply and there could be a delay for up to six days before they were dispatched and did i wish to continue with the order or cancel.
I called the Leebmaann customer helpline, and a very efficient member of staff blamed the delay on BMW and promised me that they would be shipped within 7 days. 1 day later i received a further email telling me the wheels had arrived at their store and had been dispatched to me the same day.

I received the wheels today in perfect condition and only 10 days after i placed the original order.
Its taken Laura Ashley longer than that to send me a light fiting i have been waiting for, for over two weeks.

I have saved £570 on the price as listed on BMW UK. I would not hesitate to reccomend this company to anyone looking to save money on a wheel and tyre set.
It goes to prove that the Germans are without doubt very efficient and more's the pity that we can't operate this well in this country!

Thanks for the recommendation. Was going to order a whole package off them (wheels/key cover/floor mats as the current conversion pound - euro is still quite good! Just under 2000 euro for a decent set of 18 inch winterwheels I think is a no brainer!

My friends in Denmark always buy in Germany. Two of them just bought 2 sets of winters for their BMW saving a lot.

I ordered wheels and tyres from Germany (two different suppliers) with little problem.
Delivery is very fast.

I would point out that one of those suppliers was Tyreleader while they are fast at shipping they're not great to deal with if your order doesn't get shipped. I would definitely use them again just for the prices but just a word of warning.

You haven't said anything about customs charges. How do you stand on this, or does our current EU relationship negate this issue, if you or anyone else are in the know...?

Very interested in this. Got quoted £2060 by the dealership for the winter set. Same set from Leebmann working out at £1500 delivered (396s). Can't really justify the extra £500 to get them locally. Only bonus I see in the dealer option is having the original wheels stored over the winter rather than sticking them in the garage. Does anybody know if the dealers charge for the summer to winter wheel swap and back again each time??

I'd imagine they charge unless you buy wheels from them and use their storage. Even if they charged £50 per swap (£100 every twelve months), it's still cheaper to buy from Germany. Unless you're one of the few who actually use their garage for a car, I'd get from Germany and store wheels in garage.

Yeah, that's what I was wondering - if I buy from the dealer will they still charge for the wheel change each time?

Hi Mate,

I bought my wheels from Germany and my BMW Dealer is charging me £60 a year and that's to fit the winters, store the summers then re-fit them back.

regards rick

That's not too bad actually. Were they ok with you ordering your own? Do you have them delivered to the dealership?

They were fine with it, they couldn't get near the price. Had them delivered to my home and i am getting them dropped off to the dealers on Tuesday ready for fitting thursday.
I think its all about keeping the customer happy with my dealer. There can't be any profit in it for them. £60 to change the wheels twice and to transport to Nottingham and back and store for twelve months. To me its a no brainer. Leebmann are really quick on dispatch and delivery and the customer service team talk perfect english.

I'd double check with your dealer that this is for 2 changes. My dealer charges £60 per swap so £120 per year. I rang another dealer who wanted £66 each swap. BTW they charged £40 per swap last year!

Just had mine changed for £70 +vat...that includes storage though which to me seems a fair price. It must take them quite a bit of time to carry out the swap and vehicle inspection.
I remember having tyres swapped in the past for the same amount but no storage. It was a ball ache having to load them into my car so I'm glad that's over now.

It's definitley £60 per year including the two swaps and storage.
I checked it twice with two different members of the service team in my dealers.
