"Accident" popped up on Nav screen today
First off, officially 1 week since I got my amazing 2013 F30!!! 328i Xdrive tech, winter, and premium and nav package.
Sorry, dumb question Im sure but nav showed an "Accident" warning today. Problem is, there was no accident. Anyone know where it gets the data from or why this would go off? Thanks! |

the idrive screen showed an "accident" on the nav map and alerted me on instrument panel "Warning Accident." There was no accident at the location marked on the nav map, hence why I thought this was pretty strange. But, it didn't call BMW so I am guessing the data it received must have just been bad.

I've gotten the "Accident" message also. It's from the RTTI (real-time traffic info) that comes over the radio.
For me, there was a major accident ahead along my route. The GPS recommended a new route. I took it (with some minor "corrections") that got me onto another freeway and probably saved me about 30-45 minutes. But, that's only helped me once. Several other times there have been accidents ahead and the RTTI info didn't show it until *after* I was stuck. That's not the cars, fault, but the info provider. |

I had *thought* that BMW uses SiriusXM as Germany's Mercedes, Audi and Volkswagen do:
http://www.siriusxm.com/siriusxmtraffic/availability However, it appears that BMW uses the system supplied by Clear Channel Radio which is normally distributed by Clear Channel Stations via the IBOC (HD Digital Radio). http://www.prnewswire.com/news-relea...-55928577.html If you put the FM Radio on the iDrive showing all station, you will notice stations appear and disappear as you are driving. It is finding those ever changing stations as it constantly scans looking for stations in the area that have the embedded digital traffic info which Clear Channel supplies. |

It scared the ^%$# out of me due to the unexpected gong that came with it. I had my dog in the back seat and at first I thought the car was telling me that my dog just had an accident! |

The accident message has popped up in my wife's 300 before. There was no accident ahead but there was construction going on which caused traffic to stop for a while |
