Okay guys, so after having my 328i for nearly 4 years and 53k miles it's time for a new project. My car was full bolt ons for most of it's life and now i'm looking for some bigger power. So now it is finally time to move on (please say why you voted for what you did), but i'm stuck on my next car. It is between a low miles EVO X less than 20k miles, or a 14/15 Camaro ZL1. Yes I know they are completely different cars. My needs are for it to be a daily driver, manual, fun, and mostly reliable. So the goals for the two are:

ZL1 - Tune/Intake/Pulley/Headers/e85 - which brings in around 650ish WHP

Evo X - FBO + e85 and then build the motor + big turbo and shoot for 550-650whp.

Will track/autocross every now and then, but mostly a lot of canyon cruising and roadracing

Tough call, which fits your lifestyle better? No thought of a 335 and tune it up?

I'm young so either fits it's perfectly. Will never have people in the back. I was thinking 335 but it's the same car, if I'm getting something different might as well change it up a little. Was thinking m235 but seems like a hassle to get to that 500whp mark

I’d go with the EVO because you will be spinning tires left and right with 650whp on 2wd. A 550whp EVO would be nuts!

I'd go for the Evo X...

That said, beware though that the interior is a bit spartan when compared to the BMW, so for a daily that might be something to think about.

Also, IIRC from my last test drives with the X, there's quite a bit turbo lag, even stock.
Bolting a bigger turbo will only make the matters worse.

How come a second hand M3/M4 didn't go on the list though?

The money you spend building the EVO X would be more expensive than you get 500+whp on the M235i. It's fairly simple to get 500+whp nowadays with all the flash tunes and turbos out (bigboost, speedtech, PS2)

ZL1.

I pondered getting one in 14. They are small inside and you can't see out of them. Great power train though.

Since when is getting a 3L inline 6 to 500HP more difficult than a 2L inline 4? Most of the Evos with really high HP are just dyno queens. They aren't driveable on the street at all. Having only 120lb-ft of torque until you hit 5500RPM is not fun situation as a daily driver...

I would go with the ZL1. Just sold my Cadillac ATS-V for my 340i 2018. Not that i didn't like the car but we have huge winter here in quebec, canada and needed a bigger one. From the ZL1, i would greatly consider the ats-v. great bang for the buck!! manual, 600hp easily with only a tune which is 800$. Did it to my car and man, no one can't pass by! Also, the look is amazing! you don't seem them on the road!

But if i had a choice, zl1! Just for the big V8 power and sound!

The evo catches my eye more because there is always more that can be done. You can always get a new body kit, even go wide body. Go 500/600/ up to 900who if you really wanted to

You can go evo x, but im pretty sure you'll miss the i6 after a couple months and want a m235ir .

The turbo lag on the evo is just terrible.

I'm coming from an i4, so I'd anything the evo will be a bump up power wise. Coming from a 328i

Evo if you're 16, ZL1 if you're in your 50's.

20 is closer to 16, so far the evo is grabbing my attention way more than the zl1. Think it will give me tons of fun for a long period

Status factor
Evo = 0
BMW = 100

I bought the BMW for affordable power and status .... very happy with my decision...

So unless you keep the Bimmer... me personally wouldn't do it...

Don't care much about status. And status has to do with those around you. Status with an evo is high when take to meets/shows. Don't see many bimmers there that look better. Plus If I get an evo, going tomei/testpipe with a catless o2 dump dp. Because why not piss people off and shoot flames at the same time?

Don't need a car to impress a girl, wrong way of thinking if that's the reason you got the bmw

P.s. ... just so happened I watched an old Top Gear episode and they compared the EVO (360hp version) to the Subaru .... they said the Evo was an Incredible track car (360Hp version) ... but no way as an everyday car... look it up on Kodi... it's a great episode....
