I had mine replaced on Monday. It's a defective latch mechanism.

Seems to obvious, but if you lock your car after opening the gas cap, when you go to close it, it won't let you until you unlock your car again.

Just had the same problem. I even scheduled a service call. Luckily I thought to search this issue here and found the solution! Thanks!

This is the first search that has been completed on this forum in year.

do you guys ever have the issue where it randomly just pops open? would be pretty hard to recreate to get it fixed since it doesn't happen too often, but enough to annoy me.

My cord that connect the gas cap was in an awkward position and it was easily fixable. Hope it helps.

Yep, took me a while to figure this out including an episode where I was at a mall parking lot trying to fix it. I kept unlocking and locking the fucking car and my alarm kept beeping - beep, beep beep, beep, beep beep. People thought I was on drugs, looking at me like I was insane. Finally figured it was the stupid tether. Moved it around and it finally closed properly.

No tether

What if I don't have the tether? Mine won't stay shut and there's no tether on my gas cap.
