The "Whoosh" sound is the turbo blow-off valve releasing air upon accelerating and pushing clutch in. Not hurting the car at all. Im looking for proven DYNO results before buying an aftermarket CAI. Thje BMW M intake is way too much money for the small gain, i think it was 5hp ONLY

5hp of reliable hp at all temp levels OR..."13hp" when things aren't warm.

I doubt the N55 has a BOV, but rather a recirculation valve that will not just blow off the pressurized air to ambient. Give this a read, it's a good technical article on air intakes written by Trey Cobb. Keep in mind this is coming from a guy who wants to sell you an intake.

I would like the sound. My experience with new injen intakes has been very poor. At least it fit on the car unlike the one for my Evo.

alot of car manufactures have constricting air boxes to reduce engine noise. If our cars were designed to the max then BMW should include their performance parts instead of trying to rape us...

Dinan's intake looks like the best compromise, even AFE (although that's for the N20)...key to air coming in is it should be:
1. COLD (boxed off from the engine bay at the minimum)
2. CONSISTENT (the ENTIRE filter area is exposed to the cold air)
3. SMOOTH (minimize air turbulence)

If there is a smooth "funnel" that feeds into the existing airbox for N55 engines, that would be the "best" layout - I believe that was the strategy for Dinan's N54 intake.

Reason u have extra hose is injen has not made intake for auto yet, only mt. I spend few min on phone with **********s today, and they told that injen is still looking for auto335i in Cali. **********s still don't know when they are going to sell one for auto.

I was told today that INJEN is looking for a AUTO 335i for test fitting. Should only take one day but you should be able to walk out with a new intake for free.

PM me if you're in the SOCAL ORANGE COUNTY area and i'll send you to the right guy.

This is for the AUTO 335i only because the current intake is for the manual

how many times does it have to be proven that cold air intakes usually decrease horsepower before people realize that things probably will never change?? The best bet when it comes to increasing power through air intake is to simply purchase a K&N filter and drop it in the airbox.

+1.
Intakes wont do anything until you go stage 3735183 with 62528psi of boost. Lol.

Plus injen is for civics. I wouldnt even put injen parts on my old evo. Even though they had the only uicp that fit with the stock battery and i had too many mini battery problems i didnt trust that shit. I went back to stock thin expanding rubber piece of junk stock pipe. Anyways licp more important.

Anyone know if there are hardpipes available for our cars or are they already hard.

Yeah i love hard pipes. Lol.

I would think twice before using a K&N filter on these cars because of the sensors and the oil used in the filter. Seems like good way to end up in a warranty fight with BMW (don't get me wrong, K&N makes a great product, but I think that BMW has gone so far with the sensor crap that it is not worth the risk).

the biggest curse of the n55 is the Maf sensor-

I ran the injen CAI + catless DP and it was solid - I ran a foam filter as well.
tune +catless + CAI , another story.
it was dyno'd - let me look for that thread. for e90 N55.

they should have a wrinkle black option if aluminum is too bling

Installed the wrinkle black over the weekend. Sounds pretty awesome. You can hear the air getting sucked in and it's loud when it releases air. I think it's a good cheap mod and sounds great on the freeway when you're reving much higher and changing gears.

I have a 6mt and keep my RPMs low on street driving so i don't hear the "whoosh" sound often. The turbo seems to build up after 2.3K on our 335i.

If you can get this under $300, i'd definitely do it. Wrinkle black looks awesome IMO.

I've had intakes on all my previous cars but the quality for the BMW Injen made is not the same as the one i had in my Acura.

bought it through mod bargain. Can't disclose price but their site says $315.95 at the moment. I think it's still worth it.

Look at a car in a very simple matter. What's the point of getting an exhaust if you're getting the same amount of air into the car? What's the point of a down pipe if you have the same amount of air into the car?

More air as a first mod doesn't hurt. getting exhaust mods first may because you're letting too much air out while the same amount of air is coming in.

Just my theory

Stock intakes' main role is to reduce noise levels and has to be restrictive in order to do so. Biggest benefit from any intake with an open air filter is throttle response and spool through a less restrictive design. How's your throttle now, OP? Any difference versus stock in sport mode?

Looks like they put a lot of time and R&D into the piece that makes the seat at the top of the box. Looks like someone just went to autozone and got some hose and split it.

I don't have an extra hose running around as stated before. I just have a MAF sensor empty area that i replaced with the stock one and the air filter. the part injen made to box out the area where the cone is located is very well built and thought of. Like i quoted before, i always got an intake for the sound of the engine and they were all $hitty quality but this one is really nice. Honestly, the only difference in different brand intakes is HOW they design it for the air to flow in but honestly, how much HP difference do you think each brand has regarding how they bring in the air to the car?

Just keep your cone (air filter) clean and you're good to go.

btw, took me 15 minutes to install.

Sounds good, going to pull the trigger on this. I have Challenge's full downpipe back system incoming so this should pair up nicely with it.
