So I just went out and did a little experiment. I have H/K FYI.
60 Hz clear. 100% 50 Hz clear. 100% 40 Hz starting to drop off very slightly. 30 Hz very soft. At least 6 dB drop off between 30-40 Hz 20 Hz practically inaudible. So that's my amateur assessment. |

May I suggest using a tone generator app and checking for yourself? I like Tone Generator Pro, but you may have your own preference.

I would do that if I owned a suitable microphone for this. Just asking thought someone might have an idea as to where the big drop off in response starts.
Seems to me the under seat woofers cover bass guitar pretty well, even a low E. Where they seem to struggle is on kick drum. I may buy a powered sub with lower extension and see if that resolves it. |

I would have to agree, between 40-50. I have been playing with the under seat for the last week or so.
Between 40-150 it's very effective. I just recalibrated with my MS8 install. 20-80 I use a trunk sub 80-160 underseat as mid's 160 and over the doors. |

Pardon my noobiness, but what is the downside of simply setting my amp to ~200Hz low-pass for the underseat woofers? Will the frequencies below 50Hz muddy up the sound the woofers are producing even though they cant produce those frequencies?
If that is the case, my amp does not have a bandpass feature, so is there a filter or crossover I can install between my amp and speakers that will do high-pass over 50hz? |

Just curious how long you've been messing with your ms8 to get the perfect tune? i'm about to get a new ms8 to replace a damaged one, but i'm a little nervous how long its going to take to get it to an acceptable level... heard a lot of horror stories

Not too long. I have had it for about a year now. My phase one upgrade was the MS8 with OEM speakers (Base 6 speaker system or Stereo)
Day one to about the time I introduced a trunk sub, A week or so to play with it before I understood how it worked (including wiring). Then last week or two ago I upgraded my SUB (Trunk SUB) and introduced a SUB amp. This about a week of tweaking as I was having issues with Underseat as Mid's. Which I solved with the help from kaigoss69 off of e90 thread. At this point i'm still running all OEM speakers plus trunk sub/amp. Very happy with the advice provided by kaigoss69. Its the best I think I can get with OEM speakers. Next phase Speaker upgrade in spring. Going to keep the OEM under seats just going for 2way front and coax rear's. I followed this thread by kaigoss69. Look for the last few pages of my set-up for F30 and advice provided by kaigoss69. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...1#post17417633 |

squidlyboy, To be honest with you. I don't have much experience with other AMP's/Processors. MS8 might not be perfect, however I like it so far and for my taste of sounds. I can't speak in behalf of other's expectations. I'm sure there are better products, but this is what fits me and works for me. And I have a few friends who use the MS8 and some here in this forum and they all like it.

This is not a system my "Grandma-Can-Install". Look past the marketing. This can be said about almost anything you get, it's all about your comfort level.
Only person MS8 should please is "you". I personally don't think you made a wrong decision and again I say that based on my experience/preference. It literately took me 4-5 hours to install (Not an expert installer) then the whole weekend to calibrate. After a day or two of calibration I was happy with the sound. As it was much better than what my OEM HU produced. I was even surprised how good the speakers sounded with MS8. With the introduction of the trunk sub, i was able to balance the sound to my under seat and LO's to my trunk sub. At this point It started sounding way better. I'm very happy with it. If you need help or advice let me know. I can let you know my config and then from there you can fine tune it for your preference. Quote:

Being a person that has been messing with car stereos for 30 years I really don't get the big need for a dsp processor. I have always used quality speakers, eq's sometime and good amplification.
I have installed Bavsounds and a JL 600/6 and I am very pleased so far. I set the crossovers at 200z and it seems to sound very good. I would like to have some more oomph on the bottom end and I may try a powered subwoofer such as the Rockford Fosgate units. Cross this over real low say about 60-70hz and see how that sounds. |

tclardy - i totally know what you are talking about. while waiting for my ms-8 to arrive, i only have my xd800/8v2+bsw s-1's and they kick TOTAL A** If my ms-8 got lost at sea, i'd still be completely happy with my sound system. It competely rocks right now.
At the same time, i paid a lot for this unit, so i would like to know that it will give me that much increase in SQ. Otherwise, i woulda just got a JB4 stage 1 tune instead and called it a day Last edited by squidlyboy; 02-22-2015 at 09:09 PM.. |

I sure understand that. I love the mid and high sounds, the BSW tweeters sound pretty smooth. I also think me removing the center channel made a huge difference in the separation and soundstage. Not a big fan of center channels for stereo music.
I just want to figure out how to get a little more punch and extension on the low end. I would like more info on the BSW woofers too! |
