125d loaner, now appreciate my F30!
We have a 125d m sport courtesy car at the mo. The 335d rrived from new with a small dent in the wheel arch so they are currently fixing it.
Its a long time since i drove a 1 series having owned a 54 plate 120d msport some 7 years ago. At the time i remember how the ride was awful and felt like every bump was transmitted through the seats, we ended up selling it within weeks as it made my pregnant wife feel sick, this car is no different, nowhere near as smooth as the 5 series msport we had and miles removed from the f30 we have. The 2.0 engine with 200 odd bhp sounds rough and the power delivery is all or nothing, is this from a turbo working too hard at its limit? It reminds me of the volvo v60 we had which had a d2 1.6d engine!! The 8speed gearbox is rough, nowhere near as smooth as the others i have used, and the lag on selecting a gear on kickdown seems huge. Looking forward to getting the 335 back, glad i didnt go for the m135i now, may have regretted the ride quality. |

Yes, I drove an M135i and the Golf 7R just pissed on it. Better made, better looking, better ride, better road holding, faster and cheaper to boot.
Base 1 Series with manual boxes are really horrid cars. Impossible to engage reverse. Any F30 is in another league to the 1 Series.

No experience of a golf other than a 51 plate v6 4motion i had when i was 21. Loved it, when all my mates had 1.2 fiestas and clios I felt like a superstar
Now going back to a sporty golf from the 335 would feel like I'd had an early mid life crisis, would be fun for a while though. The 125d at 30k would, for me, be a massive disappointment after a few days of ownership, so glad I skipped on the 1 series. Personally, Ride wise the f30 without adaptive susp. is much more suitable than the 1 series msport setup, lots would disagree but again different strokes. |

The 125d is down 2 cylinders and nearly 100 hp on a 335d so I would not expect it to pull like a 335d.
I thought the 125d was a twin turbo and had the same auto box as your 335d? I would bet on a twisty road the 125d might be more fun than 335d Each to their own I say, I'm not a 1 series fan and would buy a Golf |

I would have said that about the old 1 series, but the F20 is much closer to the F30 IMO than comparing the previous generation.
The wife has the new 125D and me the 335D, both with 8 speed Autos. There isn't a lot in them interior wise or ride comfort etc... Of course the 3 has more power, but that is obvious...... 1 series still holds its own quite nicely. |

I have had a few 116i Sport manual loan cars. The first one I expected to be dreadful, but it was anything but. I thought the gearbox was fine, handling sharp and even the engine impressed. These small turbo charged petrol engines are a huge step up on non-turbo units of a few years ago.

Agree with this, most of the parts are shared, Nav, climate controls, radio, steering wheel, gear shifter etc etc. This is a smal gripe of mine with the F30 in that there isnt much of a step up from the 1 series.
