125d
My best mate just picked me up in his new 2014 125d.
It is BONE stock. Not one single option. AT ALL! It's quite nice I think to have such a no nonsense car. Looks nice in white too. It's nippy, but makes me realise just how fast the 335d is. It also makes me realise how nice the 335d sounds. (even if it is fake) The manual box sounds like a bit of a mess. Tall first, short sixth? And very notchy. Handled very smoothly and flatly, and had a much better ride than E92 had. Overall, 7/10.

Bloke at work has a stock white 120d sport no options.
We went for drive in his in the week. Then today, took him out in mine Popped it into sport, HK on with Kaiser Chiefs. I sort of felt sorry for him on his drive home in his own car. |

We recently had a 3dr 125d loan car from BMW. It was auto but for some reason the shifts were very jerky, the ride was awfull, it made both me and the wife feel sick. The overall feel of the car was somewhat cheap, not what was expected and the power delivery was all or nothing. If i'd paid circa 30k i would be most unhappy

Sorry to say this, but any 1 Series with a manual box is a crap car. The gearbox is total pants. Getting into reverse is a fate worse than death.

Also mercs small hatchback, the A class, is also quite poor in refinement, interior quality and reliability! My mates one is 8 months old, done 20k and just had the whole auto box replaced! |

He also said the steering is quite heavy when manoeuvring.

The F20, both inside and outside, looks and is horrid. Just because it is a BMW does not make it a good car. Another minger is the Merc A Class. Even the A45 AMG is not that wonderful to live with. Horrid ride and shocking looking dashboard. Fit and finish has a lot to be desired. Plus the orange peel paint finish is a work of art.
But an F30 is sublime and I don't fully agree that there is a significant drop in quality between the F30 and the lardy F10. The F30 has a simpler interior, but that does not make it low rent in comparison.

The f10/11 is a step up in comfort and quality. Not a huge step but just enough to give you a feel that its a more 'grown up' car. Maybe its a size thing?

Yes, I will miss it hugely, but once I get into the 7R, it will become a distant but valuable and enjoyable memory. It is so worth owning it.

I went from my 535i to the M4 and back to my car this week. M4 is a superb car, but as NISFAN has also commented this week, it still feels very much a standard 3-series in many ways, getting back into a 5-series makes it more evident. HighlandPete |

The 1 series though is also a definite step down. I've been in 2 different spec 1ers this week....a 116 Msport and 118 at work.. Not a patch on the F30 Plus it's a hairdressers car.

Imagine if 12 odd years ago BMW went with the original plan of the 1 series not existing as the 1 series but being released as the new Mini.
Wonder what the 1 series would have been. |
