I had a similar problem on my old 2012 F30 328i, but they never said it was caused by any of these things mentioned on this thread. When I ordered the 2014 F30 335i M-Sport, I noticed that I couldn't order it with fog lights. The SA told me it's because of the increased air intake needed to cool the engine. Does that sound correct at all?

+1 And on more than one occasion it happened while I had been in Sport Mode the whole time.

Ever since the new fan and software update last April, all seems well--knock on wood.
