Seeking Advice

Looking for any and all input/advice!

A few months back I bought a set of refurbished 400m wheels wrapped in relatively new tires from a guy on here that was local and seemed nice enough. Ended up paying 1300 for them which from my research was a fair deal. Before purchasing them in cash (I know i shouldve used paypal) I asked him if they all had working TPMS and he assured me they did.

Fast forward to now when I finally have the dealership put the wheels on the car, the tpms sensors wont program and i get a light on my dash. I take it back to the dealership and they tell me today yeah either all four are not there or theyre all broken. Four new ones + labor = 1k. A thousand bucks for something i was told by the scumbag seller that were already included.

So my question to you guys is what would you do in this situation? Never been burned by someone for this amount of money before. Do i just take an L and pay 1000 bucks and learn my lesson? Do i buy aftermarket tpms and have them installed at an indy? Is that reliable? Do i demand this asshole foots my bill at the dealership?

Im pissed and have no idea what steps to take moving forward so again any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

the F30 had their TPMS sensors changed I believe in 2015 model year, so it's possible the car the TPMS sensors came from are just from an older model than yours, and hence they read a different frequency, therefore they're not showing up and acting as if they're broken. the seller technically wasn't lying if that's the case.

second, the quoted price is ridiculous. you can get aftermarket TPMS sensors, even ones that are OE and just arent branded as BMW on sites like tirerack/fcpeuro, and have the whole job done for $200 or so.

Code them out and move on with life? or is that illegal in the US (serious question)? These cars already have the rotational based flat monitoring system.

yeah that's the problem then, they did the change slightly before the LCI revision. just buy some OE tpms and swap them into the wheels. not worth spending the $1,000 with BMW, I'd just order them online (make sure you get the right ones) and go to a well rated tire shop who won't damage your wheels while doing the job haha. then you can re-sell the older style TPMS.

you can also look on the bright side of things, you'll have a bit of peace of mind with having new TPMS sensors installed. they have a battery inside so they don't last forever, for all you know one of the sensors you got used could've went bad in a month or two. generally, it's a good idea to get all new TPMS sensors whenever you get a new set of wheels.

my car is 2015 pre lci and it doesn’t come with oem tpms.

Is it possible to retrofit with the newer tpms? Do you know the part number for the newer tpms?

Thanks.

not sure what you mean? 2015 cars have the latest version of the TPMS sensors. as far as i know only 2012, 2013, 2014 model years have the older tpms.

if you have a local discount tire place, it's $240 for four new sensors installed. And they'll make sure it works before you leave.

If you were at a BMW dealership, they should've been able to tell you the sensors might have been the older frequency.

I bought 400m wheels off a guy with a brand new 340i that had the newer sensors that wouldn't work on my 2013 F30. So I had a warning light, then had the TPMS coded off.

So you can just do without. I never had TPMS on prior Audis/Porsche anyway. I had all the unneeded warnings coded out, including the seatbelt. I hate that stuff.
