Are you brave enough to buy a 1st year F3x?
Who actually is planning on buying a 1st year F3x? I ask because after my experience with a 2008 E90, I would never ever again buy a relatively early model year. Remember, the n54 in the 2008 was only 2 years old at the time that I bought it.
We all know that BMW does testing before they release cars but we also (should) know that BMW uses the first few years of owners as their final beta testers and typically after the LCI is when it's the best time to buy. I guess leasing isn't that big of a deal because you'll turn it back in after 3 years and by then the LCI might be released. Either way, my personal opinion is, I would never ever again buy an early release of a new model. I'll def have to at least wait until the LCI and preferably until the last or year before the last model before a new gen is introduced. This way, I feel better about all of the kinks being worked out.

I will wait 2-3 years after its introduction. My SA told me that there are too many electroncs, and a new Turbo engine. He said that 2011's 335i are still coming in for hpfp. However, not at a rapid pace. He also said BMW's are known for having many first year bugs.

as much as I respect any European cars but basing it from my experience, for me, IMHO, if you're going to keep it for a while, I would suggest to wait a year or two before buying it. Chances are and am not going to be surprised there will be issues but its not just the Europeans, even the Japanese has some issues on their first batch of new model rolling out.

Got a 330i E90 in may 2005. 100% perfect car.
Got a N54 6MT(oilcooler) 335i E90 in sept 2006 when it first came out: Excellent car, no problems. Got a F10 535i in may 2010:100% ok but too heavy. So no worries. |

I would buy one first year without blinking. I have one of the first Mk6 GTIs to hit the US (2010) and it had a couple of minor teething pains (water pump, door seals). Everything fixed under warranty, life's good. Personally, I think the 'don't buy first year of a new model' theory doesn't hold up anymore. $0.02

I got an E90 325i as soon as they were released in 2006. Loved it and had no problems - other than being a little underpowered (which is why they only made it for 1 year and then changed to the 328i with an added 30hp).
Not only am I going to buy a first year F30, I already have my order placed And a confirmed ED date of March 1. Hope to be driving it on the streets of Dallas by May 1 at the latest. |

If you have a good dealer and they give nice loaners, who cares. If your dealer is a douche and they put you in a corolla, i can understand being hesitant about a new model year.

Yep! It shouldn't be too bad. It's always a roll of the dice and the way these are shaping up, I'm assuming they took at much time to consider the moving parts. Can't wait!

If you got an F30 and you are driving an E90, you don't mind that either??? I also learned my lesson with new model BMWs. I had an 08 E92 335xi and got rid of it 1yr later due to all the problems I had with it. BTW, none of the problems I had were related to the N54 or the HPFP. |

Budget an extra 15% of purchase price for buying during the first year or two. Otherwise wait.
Amazing to some extent that the initial-year-or-2 quality issue is still a consideration with BMW, but I believe it is. |
