Will this setup be ok: 245/35/19F 265/30/19R with front 8.5" et 35 & rear 9.5" et 45

hi guys

just received delivery of VMR vb3 (csl style) 19" in gunmetal. they are real sexy and i can't wait to put them on!

i'm going with goodyear assymmetric 2 which seems to be best in the price class

problem is availability here is really limited due to its popularity

recommended spec from VMR is as follows:
- front: 235/35/19 to be fitted on 19x8.5et35
- rear: 275/30/19 to be fitted on 19x9.5et45

the only specs available are:
- front: 245/35/19 and rear: 265/30/19

question is whether this will fit or not and whether there will be rubbing?

i'm running on stock sports line suspension (320d f30) but may consider lowering on H&R sports

also generally, what's the pros and cons to wider tires

i get that the ratios will impact how thick the tires are but i can't really imagine impact of the width on the look / fitment

thank you -- i'm a complete newb at this .. my first car and first wheel / tire change

F: 8.5x19" ET35, 245/35-19
R: 9.5x19" ET45, 265/30-19

There will be no problem going with that setup. No rubbing issues.

You can check if the rear is available in 265/35-19 since it's closer to OEM, but besides that this will be a great setup (265/30 will work too but the rear tires will be shorter than the fronts).

Thanks that's quite reassuring
As a complete noob I see that the 235/35F and 265/30R is a popular setup. So is it normal for rear wheels to be shorter (ie less thick) than the front? Thanks!

You can use the stock setup on those wheels too (225/40 and 255/35).

235/35 and 265/30 has almost the same side wall height. The second number corresponds to side wall height as percentage of tire width.

However the spec you found available, 245/35 and 265/30, will have rear tires that are 2% shorter than the fronts. It's not a big deal, will be hard to notice. I just wanted to let you know.

Matching front and rear diameter on RWD is not crucial, but with xDrive it's a must (to avoid damage on the AWD system)!

+1

That's what I did, try to match the total heights of the wheels. 235/40 and 265/35 are virtually identically in height, 275/30 will be almost 1" shorter and about half an inch shorter than stock. 235/35 are the same height as 275/30 but about half an inch shorter than stock.

And by stock I'm referencing the square setup for 18" I had that were 225/45/18

So consensus is I should I get rears of 265/35 instead of 265/30 to have front and rear sidewalls more of the same height and closer to stock? Thanks!

Yes that's a good summary! Both 245/35 and 265/35 are very close to OEM.

Last generation M3 (E92) came stock with 245/35 front and 265/35 rear.

But you can still get 265/30 if 35-profile isn't available.

Or just use the OEM sizes...
