Spied: BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe (F36) Testing Continues
BIMMERPOST NEWS Spied: BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe (F36) Testing Continues Testing and development of the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe (F36) continues, with the prototypes undergoing cold weather testing in Sweden. As always, don't worry about the headlights and tail lights of the prototypes at this stage of testing. They are merely fakes for testing purposes. Expect the 4GC to share the lights with the rest of the upcoming 4 Series lineup. Codenamed as the F36, the 4 Series Gran Coupe will be positioned and priced in the 3/4 Series lineup just as the 6 Series Gran Coupe is positioned in the 5/6 Series lineup (in between the coupe and convertible models). [See our recent article previewing the future 4 Series / M4 lineup]. Like the 6 Series Gran Coupe, the 4 Series Gran Coupe combines the convenience of 4 doors (and larger rear passenger cabin) with the sleek roofline and silhouette of a coupe. It will share the upcoming 4 Series Coupe (F32)'s general styling and engine choices, just as the 6 Series Gran Coupe shares with its coupe counterpart. The F36 4 Series gran coupe has been previously spotted with the upcoming iDrive Touch controller system (see photo below). This comes as no surprise as BMW has already announced details for a touch sensitive iDrive controller knob and it's been previously seen on the 2014 BMW X5 (F15) prototype. The iDrive Touch system will debut with the next X5 in Fall 2013 as that comes before the 4 Series Gran Coupe's expected debut in 2014. With the 4 Series Gran Coupe as an addition, here is a summary of the upcoming 3 Series / 4 Series lineup:

There is something stylistically about the entire a5/s5 line up that looks so much better than its related a4.... I hope BMW is able to replicate that distinction with the 4er, but every spy photo makes me more and more doubtful....

Given the hex lights of the concept 4 series don't look like they'll make production now, it's going to be an even harder justification to spend the extra on a 4 door coupe over the saloon... Well for me it will be anyway.
They were a USP for me and given others' reactions I don't think I'm alone here. |

I'm excited about this car and hope BMW will up the interior quality or at least offer some luxurious options for this car. And PLEASE bring us an M4 Gran Coupe!

As a current E60 guy who is on the fence whether to go F30 or F10 for my next car...this one looks like a nice sweet spot between the two.

It's a cool car, but I don't think the volume targets support an M model. The regular car probably sells at less than M volume levels already.

Why does it sell less? There is a reason for that. While it looks good, not everybody is ready to spend that money, so they look for alternatives. I don't have any numbers to back-up, but I see more TTs than Z4s (in EU). There must be a reason for that. On the other hand, again if I'm not mistaken, the Z4 E89 is the best selling roadster BMW built.

The 4er Gran Coupe has lost some of its rear disguise showing the more 4er like appearance.
The production car is just under twelve months from its premiere at Geneva 2014, with the High Performance M4 Gran Coupe premiering eight months later.

Scott - When would US orders be available for 4er GranCoupe, any chance of Spring 2014? Also any chance the individual colors would be offered like 5's Azurite Black etc.
