Just completed a 2k round trip to Switzerland. Car was fab btw. Only managed to get an average of 49.8 mpg over the full trip which I thought was dissapointing. Average speed on motorways 80-85 mph.

Assuming that is a measured consumption, I'd say it is the average speed knocking it back, speed is the fuel eater.

First big run this weekend - Glasgow to Portee and back the next day, about 250 miles each way. The first 200 miles mostly at 50-60 mph and the TC was showing 63 mpg. Add the final run into Glasgow at 70 and it dropped to 60.
If I am to believe the TC, there is a noticeable drop when speed increases above 60.
On another note, we cut across from Spean Bridge to Dalwhinnie on the A86 and A889 - what a great route! Lots of bends which the car can easily take at 60. Brilliant fun!

Speeds up to about 60mph are where you'll get the big mpg figures, soon starts failing off once above 70mph in most cars.

Been trying out my local roads have you... I'm on the A86, in Glen Spean, so using the A86 and/or A82 every time I'm out.

It was a great opportunity to do a chunk of breaking-in miles on a useful trip on great roads surrounded by beautiful scenery, so yeah!

F30 320d Sport Manual here..

I have done about 11,500 miles in the car now. My overall average (according to the computer) is in the 50 to 52mpg range and a 200 mile motorway run at 70mph will return easily over 60mpg.

I find that using the cruise control really helps the overall MPG. Using Eco Pro can help, but I don't find the savings huge if you're driving economically anyway.

It'll be the average speed that does it. The difference in consumption between 70mph and 85mpg will be quite noticeable.

(Apologies.. just noticed that somebody else already said that)....

I used to work all over the Highlands and the A86 / A889 between Spean Bridge and Dalwhinnie is great until you meet the road hogging Lochs and Glens blue rinse busses coming the other way. God is that road narrow in places.

Best I did in my E87 118d was 63mpg from Perth to Wick. Yet to try it in my F30 but I just love Berriedale Braes. Never seen a bend like that on any other road.

Love the Braes, completely bonkers hairpin on a steep slope

I have now got 8500 miles on my 320d since getting it at the end of March with my long term average at 54.9mpg and my average speed at 50.1mph.....car is doing well and I am impressed by the mix of performance vs economy.

Doing a bit better than my previous entry now. 16000 miles and got 71.5 mpg on my 36 mile trip to work this morning. Oddly, only 60.4 on the reverse coming home - probably says more about me!

I'm finding it ridiculously easy to get 50+ mpg on any run where I'm not stuck in traffic. I have to really boot it to push it below 40 on any free run

I have currently done 2800 miles and the obc is saying 45.6mpg. I am quite disappointed with this as my previous 320d E90 averaged 45mpg so I was expecting to get into the low 50's with the f30. I have expressed my concern to the stealer and they are suggesting that I take the car in to get looked at.

Subject to the accuracy of the OBC, getting a few more miles on the car, I do think a clue to your mpg is in the E90 figure. Not a high mpg figure, indicating your driving style/mix is not going to give brilliant results. Now think xDrive and the penalty over the new F30 sDrive, in real world driving.

Will likely improve a bit, but not likely big changes. Still worth getting it checked out, but don't expect more than "it is in tolerance".

Have now over 8000 on the clock of my 320D over a period of about 8 months and my average is 40.1mpg. I was expecting more as I was getting 42/43 mpg from my E90 320D.
But I am not surprised I am getting less. On the autobahn I cruise at about 80mph and the rest is about town/suburbs.
The F30 feels that it has that much more power and in sport mode compared with the E90, is quicker and raring to go and better on the bends. I love it!
I know I can get more than 40.1mpg if I try, but to be frank am not that worried! I just could not crawl along in the inside lane - you must be joking!

Is that an s-Drive model (the poster you quoted has an x-Drive)? If so, that is shocking IMO.

I have the rear wheel drive ( I guess the s-Drive). Will see if I can slow down this week and hang about more in the eco drive!
However, have noticed in the past that if I drive with economy in mind, I seem to attract the tail-gaters!
I will just have to ignore them and keep smiling!
