B58 (2016 F30) - Teething Issues

Not that I own one myself but as a prospective buyer in the next month or so I thought it may be worth setting up a thread for owners to voice any issues with the all-new B58 engine in the F30's petrol line up, and / or the 2016 F30 generally.

Press feedback seems resoundingly positive so far but in terms of reliability it's early doors just yet clearly.

Is it just me who opened this with trepidation thinking you had some issues with your B58...If there was ever a thread that should not be appreciated, this is one of them!

Seriously, I'm sure anyone who has issues will voice them in due course.

In hindsight probably not the most optimistic of posts and a bit self serving but hopefully may help some in avoiding issues or getting them sorted by BMW. Hopefully the thread will be dead as they're all bullet proof!

Handful reported dropping valves, but nothing too major.

Oh yes. Couple of cars with rods through the crankcase on the Aussie Forum. But early days yet.

Auto box changes can be a little harsh when cold, may effect the other ZF types but I didn't notice it so much in the past.
Very very slight on and off vibration when idle, more like a tick, might go away after another few k miles maybe.
Fuel consumption no where near what some people are posting, 35 mpg city driving? 20-25 more like.

All in all, glad I didn't go for the diesel.
It's a lot of fun, little turbo lag, more than enough torque to make it an easy drive, instant throttle response and sounds like a proper car when you stick your foot down.

Echo the above completely re: the gearbox. Just the first couple of changes when pulling away from cold.

No idea how they arrived at the quoted mpg. But that's of little consequence as I literally couldn't care less about fuel consumption.

The 335i does the same thing, so nothing to do with the engine.

lol same here!

no issues after 2.5k. might be worth noting the slight engine rattle/ tapping noise at certain revs/load. It has been confirmed by a number of us that this sound is normal and seems to be more prominent on newer engines and reduces as the engine gets some miles on it.

Hasn't missed a beat in 4K...not noticed any rattles either but gearbox definitely a bit sluggish for first few minutes.

there was a thread about it a while back, maybe I'm not describe it properly, congrats between a few of us was that it was normal, there was one case where someone took there's back to the dealer to be told that it was normal.
