Need new tires, would like some advice
So one of Pirelli run-flats developed a blister and the sidewall blew out on the way to work today. I never really liked the run flats on this car as they make the ride pretty jarring. Measuring the remaining tread on the other three tires they are at like 4/32" tread so I figure it's probably just time for some new tires, and started reading reviews and looking at prices.
My car is a 14 335 with adaptive suspension running on 20" 624m wheels. I live in FL, so this car will never see snow, but will see the wet. It's my Daily Driver, I have no plans to track it, but I do do some spirited driving and I like traction when I do. I also really want some tires that are quitter and more comfortable over bumps than the Pirellis. Tire rack will sell me Michelin Piolet Super Sports in the 225/35ZR20-255/30ZR20 set up that's on the car now for about a grand. I have read good things about the Continental ExtremeContact Sports, and I can get 235/35ZR20-255/35ZR20 for about $970 delivered. So my questions are as follows: The Conti's are a little taller, but they should fit without an rubbing or issues right? It's like 1/4" more than my Pirelli's. The fronts are a little wider than stock but should still fit. Which tire does the brain trust prefer, Michelin or Continental? Is there another street tire that I should consider? I want more comfort and less noise than the Pirelli run flats, and good wet-dry traction. Don't care about all-season, and understand tread life issues with performance tires. Thanks in advance for any advice you can give. |

Ive been happy with my stock RFT Conti Extreme Contact Sport. They are getting loud though as they wear. Most people swear by PSS. Id recommend the P4S as they newer tire is suppose to be better than the PSS and have a longer tread life.

If you are not xdrive, consider upping the front tire width to 245/30/20. this almost square(10mm stagger) 245/30/20F, 255/30/20R will reduce understeer.
mpss (old best), mps4s(new best), conti ec sport, and pirelli pzero pz4 are the best max perf summer I'd choose from. Last edited by alohasurftoad; 02-14-2018 at 11:54 AM.. |

I thought I'd come back and update this thread in case anyone had the same question as I did.
First, the Tire sizes I listed in my OP won't fit. The rears are too tall. Tire Rack was really cool about working with me as I went back and forth. They even called me back after the first order was placed to make sure I had thought all my options through. Unfortunately, There aren't really any good options for 20" staggered Conti ECS's right now. You could get 235's all the way around, but can't really get wider than that and still fit an F30, with my 20's, with currently available sizes. Wider rims would have opened some more options. So I got a set of Pilot Super Sports which are great, and I'm really happy with. I will say that anyone still rolling around on RFT's, really consider swapping. Even after all the threads here I was amazed at how much the car improved going to PSS's. Quieter, better traction wet and dry, better ride, smoother. Just all around better. I have TPMS's and I threw one of those compressor/goo injectors in the secret compartment under the trunk, that should get me home. |

Anything would have been an upgrade over a 20" runflat! I'm sure you'll be happy with the PSS far into the future.
