Cheers, well anything except the standard yellow is good! I got 4500k for mine, hoping they'll be a good match.

Can somebody confirm that the fog lights are used as cornering lights for adaptive. On my f10 5er the fog lights are not used as the cornering lights, the inner angel light in the main cluster performs this function.

Yes they are. Even stationary if you turn the wheel the left or right fog light will come on.

Richard: my dealer just installed my fog light bulbs today - described as 'xenon matching pure white', however they're just as yellow as the original bulbs! Very annoying.

So I need some more, but definitely don't want them blue at all, just a pure white. What temp would you suggest?

But you do know that yellowish fogs are more effective.

Bah, only bothered about them for cornering lights my last car, being a 135i, didn't have front fogs at all (air curtain thing in their place!) but yes I do, but it's form over function in this case, the fog lights are horrible yellow IMO

I went through this with my GTI. I'll not bother with the BMW. I've got bigger fish to fry with my 2 faults. Anyway, I'm into yellow for 2103!

A very fast mini cab!

Yes, the faults have taken the shine off the new car experience. Got quite upset and stressed. Could do without this nonsense.

Mark: Would it be possible for you to post a picture of you driver's seat base, please? Be most grateful. I've started a thread for this purpose.

No problem mate, though I've only had the car since Friday morning, and have only done about 150-200 miles, is that ok?

Do you know what colour you have now Mark? Mine are 7500K. Someone on the first page of this thread suggested 5100K. To be honest I'm perfectly happy with mine. It's more the blue on the bulb itself you see very slightly rather that the output looking blue.

Apparently they're 4500k, though I find that hard to believe, as the Xenons themselves are apparently 4300k, and these are a very definite yellow, no difference from stock!

I wonder if 6500k would be good, removing the slight blue tint?

6500K would be seriously blue, going on purple. 6000K is "brilliant white" and looks blue to oncoming traffic. I don't believe for one second that the stock HIDs are 4500K; I'd have said at least 5000K if not 5500K would better describe the colour I'm seeing but then light can be deceptive

I still say the visibility pack is the best thing on this car. It's been bloody amazing over the last thousand miles or so: most of which have been at night. Travelling down unlit, major roads in this crappy weather with the active high beam thingy is a truly unique experience and makes SUCH a difference to my driving and the adaptives on twisty B roads have been equally good

I read that a xenon lamp usually has a colour temp of 4300k, and 4100k has the most light penetration, and emits a 'white' light, so most car manufacturers use that; but if these fog lights are correctly described as 4500k (as it says on their box), then yes you're right, as they're bloody yellow! But as always, there is a lot of misinformation about, and people stating opinion as fact, when they don't really know. Hence my 'apparently', as I couldn't be sure

MaestroAl: surely the small difference to 5000k from 4500k (as my blatantly yellow fog lights apparently are) won't instantly transform them to pure, crisp white: what would you recommend for my 'white' fog light bulbs? I don't want any blue at all, just a proper white...

These are 7500K (on the left in the first pic) and I don't see how you could describe them as being seriously blue, let alone 6500K. Happy to take more pics to try and capture the light differently.

Impossible to tell on a photo because most cameras will tend to make all light white through auto colour balance

I've always found around 6000K to be the happy point for the "brightest and whitest" light meself

Here's a helpful chart or two:

Richard

Liking the bulbs you have fitted, look pretty close to the headlights in the pics. Possibly slightly on the blue side.

As for the headlight colour range, I was under the impression projector lenses made the light appear a higher colour range to start with? I know my headlights seem quite blue?

Richard: I've been looking for some 6000k fog light bulbs with no luck as yet; I definitely don't want them looking blue though, wondered if you could recommend some for me to get (pure white to match the Xenons)??

Can't help you Mark sorry. I had a quick look and can see 5000K and 7500K but nothing in between.
