I told my dealer that I would expect the latest maps of the day when I actually got the car (or the day I signed on the dotted line) and told him that there were apparently two updates since the car was built (2013-1 and 2014)

So far he has gone quiet and was very surprised about the level of detail I knew. The whole matter would normally not be a big concern, but the map updates are so outrageously expensive that I really want the latest.

And I understand from previous comments in this thread the 2014 version came out well before I signed.

Thing is, made in is the date when the chassis is matched with the body. The software or maps in the CIC could well have been programmed much earlier.
Keep pushing them, if you said you wanted the latest, they are at fault. They'll sort it.

My F31 was built on 29/11/2013 and was delivered with 2013-2 maps. I installed the 2014-1 maps on 02/01/2014 without being asked to enter a new fsc code.

Prf45 how did you go about installing the update? Can the pro media download it's own update or do you need to put the file on a usb stick?
Thanks

Hi Proftinkerpot, I downloaded the 2014-1 map by bit torrent (16gb). Transfer the files to a 32gb usb stick and put it in the armrest socket. When you turn on the ignition the sat nav recognises the presence of the update and starts the install procedure. You may need a fsc code to install the update.

Prf45. Many thanks indeed. Is the fsc code the same as the release code? In my folder with the handbook was a copy of a page bearing the chassis number and a release code.

you can buy the genuine OEM CD’s from the dealer for about £30 - I did this with my Z4 and then got the FSC code elsewhere
this saves the hassle of using torrent sites and burning onto DVD’s etc

I will have a word with my dealer. I would think a 2014 registered car should come with the latest version of maps.

Proftinkerpot. A FSC code is required to upgrade existing maps. If your car is only a few weeks old, it may not ask for a new code when upgrading. Codes can purchased from BMW or from various individuals on forums for a fraction of the price.

Are most people using BMW-Navi for the codes or has anyone emailed Dracon as per the readme file?

Thanks

I'm sure someone said that some roads disappeared from their Nav after the update?

The FSC Map Generation Tools are freely available now (link is in attached doc).

(Note you will need to have a OBD E-Net Cable + BMW Standard Tools - freely available)

The price of a cable is still cheaper than a FSC code.

Thanks Andy. Is BMW Standard Tools something different to E-Sys?

It's INPA/EDIABAS - you should have this already if you have e-sys

Just tried this and it appears to be for CIC only...not NBT. I'll have another play around with it later.

It took 2 years for a major A road bypass to be included for me.

Wow - didn't know that existed. Does this really mean you can download the latest maps and upgrade them using this tool without needing an FSC code or anything else (other than eSys and a cable)?

Isn't Next the NBT system, if so the 0x28 should change to 0xA9.

Bear in mind I haven't tried this as my car hasn't been built yet! I'm just looking at the text file.

Finally, I have a way forward with BMW UK and it's only taken 19 emails!! They have agreed to meet the cost of upgrading my maps to 2014-1. They're even going to arrange to collect the car and give me a courtesy for the day.

For info / in case it helps anyone else's case my 330d was built on 04/12/2013 and delivered on 30/12/2013 with 2013-2 maps.
