Where is the New G... Platform 3 Series?!!

Round this time in 2011 information of the F30 started to leak out in advance of a full unveil that November.

So far, there has been talk of the new 3, but not many quality spy shots and discussion of a sale date.

The F30 is long in the tooth now and the 6 year cycle is ending this coming January.

Someone in the market asked me should he get a 340i now and I told him to wait, but couldn't say until when.

Any insight?

If you were a BMW CCA member, you could read about it in the club magazine; another source is some of the Euro automotive magazines. And then there's plain old Google.

+1

And if it were me, I would go for the 340. It will have the same B58 (although tuned less aggressively than the M340), and a good amount of aftermarket tuning and upgrade options. Adopting a brand new platform at launch can be risky. Remember all the niggling issues the F3x had the first couple years?

According to the information in an ETK-based online parts catalogue, the production of lci f30 ends in August 2019.

7 year life cycle for the F30. This is not news. The G20 will be introduced in 2018 as a 2019 model.

if you follow the upcoming models thread in the general BMW section, the F30 end of production is 10/18 with the G20 coming online after that probably will see them hit dealers in early 2019

This.

F30 ends 10/18, G20 will start around 1/19.

There was 2 months of down time in-between E90 and F30, so I think it's safe to assume the above.

The G20 3 series for the US will be built in a new plant in Mexico starting in 2019.

I'm thinking I'd wait until the G had a full production year behind it.

I'd wait two years. One year for the bugs to show up, another for BMW to fix them.

Ok, ok, I'll take the flames , but allow me to explain...

I'd seen a few articles pointing to 2019, but didn't believe them as I expected only a 6 year cycle. Wanted to double check to be safe.

Besides, I'm looking at the 240i as my next ride and currently am in a 4 series, so my 3 series intel isn't what it has been in the past.

Thanks for the info, I'll accept that BMW will just be late to this party. New car better be real good!

Another important thing will be to see if the US version gets both B48TU and B58TU right on the intro date. There's a non-zero chance that at least B48TU will be delayed in the U.S. relative to RTW.

There is no reason to expect BMW to shorten a mass production vehicle's lifecycle from its standard 7 years. F15/F16 is the only model that broke the rule in the last couple of decades, and I strongly suspect the overhaul of Spartanburg production to be CLAR-only with the addition of X7 was the primary reason for that.

Really? The E90 was only SIX model years in North America. 2006-2011.

Don't be too disappointed - I'd be willing to bet they'll do like they did with the F30 in 2012 and start building/shipping in Spring of 2018.

+1

BMW started selling the F30 in the spring of 2012 as a 2012 model but offered RWD version only.

The 2012 AWD version was an E90 model until fall of 2012 as a 2013 model. I owned one of the first 2013 xDrive F30's, overall great car.

The Coupe stayed an E9 model until 2014. I would presume (IMHO) the G20 will be a 2019 with a 2018 spring release (less than one year away!).

The coupe will be the year after followed by the M3 version in 2021 (IMHO FWIW).

NOTE: This is not official, just what I believe.

Across the line, BMW used to roll out RWD first and then xDrive versions.

But with the emphasis on xDrive, and even M models having xDrive, I don't see them taking the same route with the G30. I'd have to double check, but pretty sure the new 5 series launched with xDrive.

Model years are US specific bullshit. Look at the actual SOP and EOP for the European market.

Do you know when X7 production will start next year for North America?

Mid- to late 2018. Don't know more precisely than that.
