First dyno run ever, what gear?
I am going to have my awd 435 (at 8 speed) dynoed on Friday. I have never been to a dyno. my intent is to verify the vr tune I have is operating at safe A/F ratio and also of course find out the power.
what gear should I pull? also anything else I should know going into it blind? I thought you are supposed to do a pull in whatever gear is the closest to 1:1 not sure if that is right though because from what I am reading that is 6th gear which is higher then I would normally expect.. |

6th pulls till 160( 266kmph) which is too long and will make intake overheat...
i guess 5th or 4th are best. even tho they aren't 1:1

I would stay on the side of conservative and just do a 5th gear pull. You may find a bit more torque in a higher gear but it's really trivial stuff.

what about a/f readings? I was shopping for downpipes yesterday and I see some offer extra bungs for wideband and egt gauges. without this extra bung can they read my a/f properly.
they phrased it like this: "We do have an awd dyno jet. We also have a air fuel wideband monitor..." not sure if it is possible that they hook to the obd2 port or just go in the tailpipe. otherwise I am thinking I would need an extra bung in an aftermarket downpipe. |
