328xi Msport downpipe advice?

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Hello. Long time viewer, new to post.
I have a 2014 328xi Msport. It has every Msport upgrade possible at the time. I’m right now it’s stock minus air intake and bm3 bootmod3 tune.

I’d like to get a downpipe, and am looking for advice - overall - but particularly on fitment… because it’s Xdrive and possibly because of something different about the Msport downpipe/exhaust setup?

Also, catted or not, and why?

All help would be much appreciated, thank you in advance!!.

Aftermarket cats (GESI, anyway) have come a long ways. On my Scion FRS, I put a cat into my downpipe and did not lose power (This was tested on a dyno). I don't think I could ever advocate for catless downpipes unless you really enjoy the stank and noise.

Catless does have a prominent stink- if you're not into it, don't think you can escape. Your passengers will also comment on it. If you park in an enclosed garage, it will cover everything. If that garage is attached to your house, it will come indoors.

I have a 2015 328i xdrive with an Evolution Racewerks high flow catted downpipe. I've been running this setup for almost 4 years and have no issues with fitment or performance on BM3 stage 2. Not sure how Colorado is with emissions testing, but keep in mind that you may have issues with passing emissions depending on what downpipe you use.

Msport (that's just badging mainly) doesn't change anything. Just make sure you buy a downpipe that fits your car (x-drive and engine size).

Catless smells, and you get that "I hacked the exhaust off my car, and see how loud (and crappy) it sounds" sound. I did high flow ER, sounds refined. Others in my neighborhood are full catless, and you can smell them a block away, and they have that tinny/harsh exhaust tone. Up to the ears of the beholder as they say....

Indeed catless sound is very raspy. A high flow cat is the way to go imo.

Thank you all for your input. From what I hear catted ER is the way to go! Much love.

I have been very happy with mine. Sound is refined, smell is minimal.

I recently saw that CTSturbo has an f30/n20 catted downpipe for ~$350.

Looks very interesting to me, as I’m not to the point where I want to invest $800+ in an ER. Anyone have a cts catted dp by chance, or have any feedback?

CTS is pretty well known in the VW/Audi community for having quality products and great customer service. I had their intercooler on my big turbo GTI.
