Ventilation on when car is locked???
Hi guys,
Just wondering if anyone can help me out here. I've noticed recently that the cars ventilation starts to blow air around the windshield area when I've already parked the car in the garage and locked it. It can come on at anytime, even a few hours after it has been parked in the garage, and the only way to stop it is to unlock the car, open the door. I don't know how long it lasted for because by the time I go into my garage to get something, and I notice it going on, I try and switch it off immediately. I know that you can set a timer on the climate control for when you get into the car in the morning on a cold day or hot day, but my settings are not turned on, and there is no timer set. One time, I started my car in the morning and noticed that the 'low battery warning came up' and that was due to the ventilation going on the night before which may have slightly drained the battery. Any clues or why this happened? How do I stop this from continuing? |

Hard to tell without more details, but I assume you are outside of the car when noticing this since you say the car is locked. Sometimes the engine fan will run awhile after turning the car off to continue cooling the engine. So perhaps that is what you are hearing and perhaps the fan creates enough air movement that some of it is escaping along the edge of the hood at the windshield?

Next time you turn car off, check climate settings in iDrive. That is where you would set the parked car ventilation to either come on after you hit the start/stop button the 2nd time or at some later point in the day. Wondering if the box is checked. But it sounds like a malfunction yo me.

Parked ventilation
My wife's Volvo runs the cabin ventilation for a bit about 30 minutes or so after being parked. I looked it up and it says they do it to move the air so it does not get moist in there. Strange, but supposed to be there. On the F30 platform though, sounds like no one else has it.

You can program the ventilation system to come on at a specific time. It's designed so it can vent the car up to 30 minutes before you get in to drive home. I use it in the summer but honestly it makes minimal impact on cabin temperature.
It's also possible that the schedule yours is set to is just screwed up. http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=708027
