Brand New F36 - Need your Help!
Hi Guys,
I picked up my 2016 F36 last Monday from the Performance Center(Highly recommended if you haven't done it). Link below has a few cell phone pictures of her. Carbon Black F36 Here is where I need your help. Since i got her, the vehicle has been pulling to the right so I went to the dealership and they "checked" it out and came back and told me its all normal. The tire pressures were uneven at first so they set all the pressures as per required specs. I drove the car for a couple days but it still pulled to the right. The techs took it for a joy ride and put 5 miles on it and didn't do a thing. Today I went back and asked to have a technician with me and drove it to show him the issue. As soon as we got on the road he agreed that it was drifting to the right. So they put it on the machine and the alignment was off (see report in above link). I told them I would drive the car for a couple days and let them know if the issue is resolved or not. So I drove the car and it still pulls to the right and its especially noticeable at highway speeds. So my question to you guys is, since the alignment is within spec now, what do you think the issue would be? would it be the tires? or could it be that I have a bent chasis/frame? I have not hit any pot holes or anything of sort. I am just very surprised and disappointed that a car from the factory would have such an issue even after the alignment has been done. Any help or guidance on how I should approach this with the dealership is appreciated. Vehicle Specs: 2016 - 428i (F36) Carbon Black, M-Sport package, Cold Weather Package, Driver Assist and Assist Plus, Track Handling Package, Premium Package, Technology Package. Assuming the car is new and has not hit a curb. A tire could be to blame. I would be worried about the alignment being off out of the factory. My new 340 tracks perfect dead center.

Sorry to hear that. I don't have any thoughts on what's causing it, but it is clearly a warranty issue and it's the dealer's responsibility to figure out what it is and fix it.

Just for the heck of it put a few more pounds into the right front tire. That will decrease the rolling resistance of that tire. The tires should be well matched, but you never know.

btw, I know the OP's car isn't an xDrive. Though as said, it is gorgeous.

You are right I just checked mine from that same angle and the gap seems bigger, I hopped that was the reason for his problem |

I'm wondering if it's faulty tires since it pulls harder while accelerating. |

The camber in that "factory alignment" was so far off I'm thinking they skipped that step when your car was assembled!
If the after results can be trusted the car should track straight now. All roads are crowned and your car will eventually drift right (or possibly left). |

you should swap front left to right, test drive, if not switch fronts back then do the same for the rears.
also set cold tire pressures with a good ol' tire pressure gauge and check tire pressures with the gauge after warm. if find discrepancies with the tpms pressures and actual tire pressures and i trust the tire gauge pressures more than tpms there's also a possibility of it being related to a brake rotor or caliper it's a brand new car and all but something is obviously not right Last edited by alohasurftoad; 01-23-2016 at 10:03 AM.. |

Had the same issue as the OP, slight drift to the right on freeway driving. I thought it was due to the crown of the road which normally has a slight slope to the right (US roads) so that water drains away from the center divider. Lived with this for about a year and finally had my local alignment specialist (they do all the city's vehicles) and he did some adjustments to the rear camber and the car felt like a joy to drive, no more drift. He said if it didn't fix the drift, he would have to do some modification, but thankfully that was all it took.

I went looking for the readout, but apparently didn't keep it. We sold the car F30 a couple months ago and got the 428i GC, a "funner" car to drive IMO. It tracks straight - one of the first things I looked for when we took delivery.

Wow, the original alignment looks awful. Since the car can't get out of the factory w.o. going through the alignment process, something about the car, tire, frame process must have happened to cause an alignment like that. (Or something happened during shipping.) I would imagine the dealer 'should' have access to the factory alignment records, but since they have never seen a problem like this, they didn't check.
Tires can also be a big factor. Over the years, I have gotten two or three tires that were out of round, but that normally just causes bump-bump-bump. Does your car have one directional tires? Do you know a good tire shop? In a time vs. money equation, it might be cheaper to have an independent shop do some L/R switching. I hate to say it, but this is an "interesting" question. Please keep us informed. |

I would bet on a sticking brake piston since the alignment didn't fix it. I should be fairly easy to see if the wear is the same at all 4 corners.

They took the brakes apart to check on a squeaking issue and didn't find any issues. |
