Paying $90/mo for Xenon headlights?
I am going to order a 328i Sport Line at the end of the month and I REALLY want Xenon headlights (I even installed LED halos on my 06 Subaru ).
This means I have to order the Premium Package. I have no need for heated seats, moonroof, etc., but I really want the AEs. This would add roughly $3000 to by sale price. Please, justify my extravagence (And no, I'm not spending another $4-5k on a 335) |

You're not gonna get heated seats with the premium package. These are the options you get in the premium pack.
IMO, the Comfort Access and the Power Front Seats are nice to have. If you're only after the Angel Eyes, you can wait for an after market solution. I'm sure it'll be available soon. But if it's the Xenons you want, I think they're worth the extra cost (although I think they should be included. My opinion of course). |

After driving this for 5 years, driving without AEs would be like driving without contacts

Yep. It's stupid that BMW makes you pay extra for what should be a standard luxury brand feature. I'd rather the base price was higher and it was included...but to nickel and dime the buyer is ridiculous.

I've actually been wondering about the prem. package. Most of the things in it I don't need, so I didn't get it. Are the seats not power without the package? Or will I just not have the seat adjustment memory? Because I think it's kind of stupid that the seats would not be power by standard, especially in a brand new BMW...

Well, at least I only have to live with it for 3 years. I'm sure I'm gonna be enjoying driving it too much to care anyway.

To the OP: I would recommend the Xenons. It is one aspect of the F30 that really sets it apart from the other cars on the road (of course in addition to MANY, MANY other factors as well. haha!). Whenever I pass other Bimmers with the AE's, it really does catch one's attention on the road (just as Audi's 'lazy eyes' do as well...).
These three options were critical in my personal decision to move forward with the premium package. The Comfort Access is truly a 'must-have' feature for me in future car (Bimmer) purchases. I thought comfort access would be just a novelty, but it really does make the Bimmer experience that much better. Having to just slip your hand in the door handle to unlock the vehicle, having a 'biometric' type way to lock the vehicle, the 'kick-open' trunk, etc....are just little things that go a long way to appreciate the tech in our F30s. Since I didn't have Sports seats in my Luxury Line F30, Lumbar support gives me added comfort for my lower back on those long drives (still have yet to take a long road trip, but in the planning stage now.....). And the Power front seats with driver seat memory is a HUGE thing for me since my wife & I split time driving the Bimmer. It saves my wife and I time from having to adjust the seats and such each time we have to use the car.... Last edited by malc410326; 05-06-2012 at 10:48 PM.. |

It killed me to take delivery of a car in 2012 that does not have Xenons. So many of my previous cars came standard with them, even back in 2003. Even a new $23k mustang comes standard with them.
That being said, making the switch to the standard halogens was not as bad as I thought it would be, especially after driving the last 7 years with Xenons. |

The biggest benefit of the Xenons is the looks, which I do love.
Practically though, it is highly debatable as to whether the Xenon low beam is really a better lighting system than the halogen low beam. With low beams, it's always a trade off between brightness and the sharpness of the cut off. I personally find the sharper cutoff of the Xenons often more than negates the benefit of the increased brightness. |

Listen, you have to get the premium package. This is not debatable (unless your religion doesn't allow you to have leather seats). There are a few reasons for this:
1) You are buying a luxury car, but a 3er without premium pkg hardly has any "luxury" to it. I agree with the other posters that it is f'n ridiculous that bmw doesn't include these features as std. 2) If you don't have premium, your car will be in the bottom 10% b/c every 3er I have ever seen has premium. this will affect you on the back end for trades, resale, residual, etc.. Even if you lease, this may still affect you. 3) The cost difference won't actually be as much as you think b/c you can still negotiate it. I would also get the xenons (for looks and brightness), but that is your choice.
