I don't disagree with you. But if they break in while I am present and threaten me with a gun, then of course I will simply give it to them. My tactic is for when no one is at home. I doubt that all thiefs that break in to steal the key are armed. For a few that are, well as I said before, if they are determined to get hold of your car, you can't do much.

Having read these stolen car threads,I think if someone nicks mine I certainly won't hassle the police to find it,let the gap insurance do its thing I certainly wouldn't be in a hurry to get it back, would be hoping the low life c**ts crash and burn,as long as no one else's gets hurt of course surely these so called pro car thieves must know the cars are trackable

It's not so much the armed type etc.

It's the scruffy bloke in bad fitting balaclava walking in to your sons / daughters room and the after effects of that trauma.

Very few are armed with guns, knives, hammers, tools yes.

The idea is just to let them take .

Anyone saying they would be able to handle two blokes at 2am while in their PJ's (or less) needs to place an add in Grindr lol

Ok... I have read this three times and I still have no idea what the scam was here. Is it just me?

Yes, this is exactly what I mean. Don't bother telling them about Cundall or if they mention it, don't sign the damn data protection thing.

Goes against your natural feelings of wanting your stolen car back but ....... take emotion out of it and make a "head" decision. It's just a car which has some figure of value.
Yes it's your pride and joy, but all that changed when the bastards took it.

Having said all of that, no idea what kind of impact a claim like this would have on your insurance, so you still lose out big time for many years through no fault of your own.

I do hope the OP and gr4z gets a satisfactory result that they are happy with.

Does anyone know the impact of a full value claim vs stolen/recovered claim on future insurance premiums? Just curious as opposed to this actually being important in a decision making process.

But agreed with some - I wouldn't want it back if it's been nicked. Let the po po deal with it and what will be will be without my intervention.

Really sorry to hear this. Here's a picture of the BMW Remote app being able to track a parked car with the ignition off from 600 miles away. I was in Toulouse and the car was in UK. The tracking app won't work when the car's being driven.

But please note that on my vehicle, the nav system is called "609 Navigation System Professional". I don't know if that's the same as yours. My vehicle's a F30, 330d LCI from Dec 2015.

The thing to remember about cctv is that it isn't just about catching a good picture of the crims, its also about seeing where they went and what they touched, for forensics to get good samples from, and to see their modus operandi, so future deterrents can be employed.

Most of these people are well known to the police, who have their DNA on file, so all it takes is a little bit of forensics and bingo, they get a rude awakening one morning.

Good luck, OP. Hope all gets sorted in your favor.

+1 I also leave my keys and wallet in a catch-all dish, on a dresser, just to the side of my front door. I would never want to confront a person who resorts to breaking and entering to survive. You just can't predict their mental state and how they may react to being confronted.

After being burgled and cleaned out including the spare key to the car just over a year ago I now have an alarm system that also covers the garage and I have a cctv system.

My car is always left in the garage, I'd like to think it was a deterrent rather than actually having to rely upon it.

Has it been found yet?

Or are BMW dragging their heels.

This is where insurance companies (the actual main company) should be pushing BMW to improve this service.

I still wonder how BMW insurance would handle this.

The alarm would go off but it's a really pathetic electronic alarm so you probably wouldn't hear it.

I wouldn't want it back.
A family friend was at home one day when somebody walked into his kitchen and picked up the keys to his Octavia VRS. Chased them out of the house. Guy jumped in the car and as the owner tried to pull him out he reversed out the drive. Owner broke his ribs when the car dragged him into the gatepost.

2 Days later the car was in a police chase and was doing 100+ over speed bumps. Eventually the owner got the car back and its was completely ruined, drove like a banger.

All these stories make me so paranoid for car theft. I live in a block of flats at the minute to my car would be a hard target buy when i buy a house I'll be forever worried about who's driving past.
