An interesting thread !

The issues that have arisen since arrival of my car:
• Rust in the front Seat Bases
• Rust in the front Seat Hinges
• Rust in the rear centre seat fold down lugs
• Mismatched internal door trim
• AM Radio at start up
• IPod connection
• Wind noise / exterior door trim
• Crooked Roundrel
• Replacement Tyre Plate (I think)

The rust issues are largely unresolved. At my last (I think fifth) visit to my local dealer they advised a "rust repair kit" was being issued by BMW Australia.

The door trim was fixed, but it took about five months of time and two visits.

The AM Radio at start up is still unresolved.

Wind noise and crooked roudrel were fixed.

Im waiting for a replacement tyre plate (I think it's the sticker that gives the tare weight and tyre pressures).

So as a first time BMW owner Im bitterly disappointed at the quality of my car. The dealer has been quite friendly and good to deal with personally - I'm pretty well known now. However, my frustration levels are rising.

Would I buy an F30 - not new, and unless I was guaranteed I had one of the "problem free" cars.

Wow that's pretty horrendous. What month build was your car? One would think that after the first 6 months of production, that the SA factory would have had enough time to rectify all the well known issues - especially that rusty seat! Not very confidence inspiring.

So, it seems, are many others, me included. This has recently been issued from BMW factory. Not sure how widespread it is, but it isn't an operational or cosmetic problem.

Around Mar 2012. The rust issues are disappointing and hopefully they'll sort it all out.

The other bits and pieces are rather minor and the dealer has (generally) given good service.

Tis a shame to have silly issues like that from a brand that prides themselves on quality and premium status. Then again, I wonder if it's just teething issues at the design/initial production stage and BMW is not immune to it.

Does anyone know of issues from cars built in second half of 2012?

Overall I think I have been pretty lucky. My major disappointment is with rattles through dash/steering column/centre console. It just feels like it should ride the bumps much quieter than it does.

Also, one of my front air vents wont stay in position when running the air cond at max - this sounds pretty minor but is a pain on a hot day when you try to point the thing at your face and it wont stay put.

I also had a snagging seatbelt (driver) which the dealer replaced.

To be fair, my dealer here in Hobart has been excellent so far.

Try cleaning the rubber seals and checking if they were installed properly, I have read that the wind noise reduced for some people after cleaning the rubber thoroughly. I wonder if the rubber is too stiff or something =/

For me the doors weren't closing too well after I cleaned them they seem to close much easier now.

Correct, the wind noise was pronounced from about 70 kmh. Told the dealer, replaced the trims no probs.

Trims? You mean the strip around the window frames?

I have documented the ongoing door noises on this forum. I hope that yesterday's Teflon tape fix is the end of the noises.... So far so good. I have also had th following issues....
DAB tuner not installed as ordered, boot mounted section of tail light loose, interior a pillar trim not fitted properly. these have all been addressed by the dealer in a professional manner. My main concern at present is that the door "crackling" noise fix using Teflon tape is really a workaround and I wonder if the tape will peel over time. No doubt there are quality issues. I have owned mostly Japanese cars apart from an MGF ( that was a mistake). The Japanese cars have all given flawless service with no quality issues. This is my first BMW and I have been a bit disappointed. I joked with the dealer that both cars I have purchased from them ... The m sport and the MGF in 1998 have had quality issues. Obviously not the fault of the dealer and the m sport has not and probably won't have the number issues my MGF had.

My 10 cents: Picked up my F30 335 in July 2012 - had a small chip on the exterior paint on the petrol flap - dealer replaced the flap the following week.

Other than that it has been perfect in every way. I really do feel that I got an outstanding vehicle, which meets my expectations.

I have done over 4,000klms now and this is my first 3series bimmer and the one thing that bugged me when I first drove it and still does today is the 'clunk-e-ness' of the front end over rough surfaces both in sound and feel. I like a drivers car that gives good road feedback, but this is different. It is a minor gripe and I live with it, but not what I expected from a car of this pedigree.

I have one big gripe tho and that is the halogen headlights. YES, it was my decision to go with the Xeons but the quality of the Halogens is just not up to BMW standard and I feel ripped off on this point. Much cheaper jap cars have far superior halogens as standard. HID kits on their way,...
