My opinion is that these sizes come closer to a 1/2 series than a 3/4 series, supported by various members pointing out the 'tall' guy or smaller car size.

What do you think?

I was intrigued by your post because I thought I knew why you were miscalculating it. Anyways, you can't measure what you did and call it 19 inches. The outer lip of the rim is NOT part of that. I measured the tire diameter instead since I knew exactly what it was based on the tire size.

I got the same wheelbase as the F30, 111". I still got it being considerably shorter though at 10". I think the F32 will be a bit shorter than the sedan, but not by much. What I think is happening is that the front nose sits out a few inches that we can't see due to the slight angle and I am measuring straight across instead of how they probably will reducing it by a % or so.

It's definitely the F32, though.

Anyone else think the side vents look a bit cheap? I'm not liking them much in the pictures. Hopefully will look better when I eventually see them in person.

I guess the coupe is actually getting smaller then because even if you added 6 inches for the front and 3 for the back thats 9 plus 167, or 176, about 5 shorter than the e92. that's a decent bit smaller.

looks good to me so far. I'd buy it if price will be right. in e90 models, base price of the coupe was ~10% more than that of sedan. They seem to be talking about 5/6 series margins where the difference between 5 and 6 series is more than 20%. It will seem overpriced considering it is just a 3 series with 2 doors... will see and hopefully the price is right so that i'll take it; otherwise, C-class or A5 coupes will move in my garage.

If you stretch the roofline and wheelbase by a few inches and add another door you can see how the upcoming 4er Gran Coupe will look like.

I totally see and understand the movement right now in the automotive industry to the short rear-ended coupe, as we see on the so-called 4 door coupes and some other new models. It's almost like mixing a coupe and shooting brake hatch rear end. I showed this thread to a friend who isn't a super big follower but wants an F32 and he was like "oh cool the back looks like a 911."

So, I can see where the automakers are going with these designs. But that said, I'm not sure I like it. As "cool" as even I think it looks, it lacks the gracefulness of a full-bodied coupe. Coupes, at least to me, are supposed to be long and low, usually longer and lower, or at least lower-looking than their sedan counterparts. I always liked this about the BMW 3 coupes. I think they really did it well with the e92. We can look to other makers for this too. Take Mercedes. The CLS and E coupe are certainly not ugly cars. But compared to the CL, they're back-office worker bees.

Now, I realize many of you will think I'm just another one of those "preach the e92 until I get an f32 and convert people," but I'm not. I like the car I am seeing in the pics. A lot actually. But I just don't see it being the 3 coupe, or 4 coupe or whatever it is going to be. Perhaps the idea with the new numbering is to change the car so much that it isn't a 3 coupe. If that's the case, that's I'm fine with it. I just wish they wouldn't do away with a long and low, graceful looking model.

Yes, every F3x model will have electric steering. The jury is still out on the M versions, however. Keep your fingers crossed.

Best regards,

That is an extremely odd definition of functional. What function does the hole (if present) in the sheet metal have? In the E46 M3 the side grilles were indeed functional as on one side of the car they helped vent/cool the engine electronics. If it does not do this or flow air for some other purpose I say it is absolutely not functional. My guess is also that it is non functional by this definition.

I'm trying to figure out the tail lights...

Usually BMW tail lights have one part on the rear fender side and one on the trunk lid, the part on the fender being thicker and ending higher up, but the 2 parts usually being clearly separated at sharp angles on each side of the trunk lid edge which cuts the tail lights into 2.

Scott26's sketch seems to confirm this traditional tail light design:

Strangely enough it seems as though the 2 parts of the prototype's taillights blend/merge into each other instead of stopping at a sharp angle on each side of the trunk lid edge:

I wonder if it's only some delusional camo undernearh the black tarp or if the 4er tail lights indeed do not have this traditional design and, instead, are closer to the X6 flowing/no sharp angles tail lights design (much less common):

But then it wouldn't be consistent with Scott26's sketch...

I think the profile picture that some of you guys have used to measure the vehicle's length with the 19" rims serving as measure unit has delusional proportions, hence you came up with an unrealistically short total length...

Here are a few other profile pics you can use:

--> These seem to be the F30's 17" type 394

--> Unknown to me but apparently 17" as well

--> M4 apparently on 19"

Maybe the measures will prove me wrong but I can't quite believe the F32 is shorter than the F30 or even the E92 (F30 is 4m62, E90 is 4m52 and E92 is 4m59)... unless BMW deliberately made the F32 less spacious than the E92 so that people looking for rear room upgrade to the 4 GranCoupé
