Where’s the road manners gone ?

I remember the days when if you let someone in or through a narrow gap they would show their appreciation with a raised hand etc - to say thank you

Don’t see that much anymore but people are too ready to give the V sign etc

What’s going on ??

On a positive though Fat Kid 1 had a run in with a guy in a 220d who once he caught up with him gave him a thumbs up to appreciate the joust.

Decent lad.

There is a strong correlation between latitude and road manners - the further north you go, the nicer people are. The further south you go...

I've noticed this too. I've been wondering if people are living inside their own bubble these days and it's not a case of being rude, but not even aware that you've let them out or made an effort. I see a lot of people driving like robots where I live. Heads always fixed dead ahead and very little peripheral awareness. Maybe more like zombies than robots

But I think people are less polite in general these days. I try to get rid of kit I no longer need on eBay. Been doing ever since eBay started but I've noticed that over the past two years people hardly communicate anymore and don't ever give feedback.

I make sure everything is perfect and I exceed the dispatch / delivery expectations but these days it's all taken for granted. In the past people would email to say they'd got the item and it was all ok and thank you on top of leaving feedback. Now it's total radio silence, it's a bit weird because I used to like getting feedback as it closed the loop and I knew the item had arrived safely.

Until very recently I still gave seller feedback for every transaction, I must say now I don't bother unless I get some first

Personally, people are less polite and more aggressive toward me in a BMW than they ever were when I was in Acuras. Even the red TL-S.

It's not just on our roads. Walking around shops and stepping aside and you're lucky to get a thanks or even a nod. If I'm with the Missus and they ignore her. she normally follows it up with "you're welcome your majesty"

Don't get it at all. Seems manners and basic courtesy have gone out the window.

I was a bit of a cock to a woman on the way to school the other day. She was on her own war path and was barging people out of the way. I saw her knock to the side a few kids as she barged her way down the street and she seemed to line up with my 3 year old to push him out of the way. I swapped sides and she walked full pace into me then fell into the road (no cars I must add). Brushed herself off and looked all sheepish. Fucking cunt had no issues with flattening a 3yr old so I felt great satisfaction bouncing her into the road. I wasn't expecting her to stack it but GOOD... goooood.

I noticed that the further north you go the slower people are going. On the M4 people are happy to be doing 80-90. North of Brum it seems 80 is the norm. North of Leeds its more like 75. I was near Newcastle and I was checking my speed as I was overtaking nearly everyone with cruise control set at 70!

I've just come back from Spain and while its a different style of driving, there was none of the bad tempered agressive driving that I see around home (Bedfordshire). Went into Milton keynes the other morning and it appears that most people have never even seen the highway code, let along read it - the roudabouts are dangerous when no one gives way to the right.

Maybe we need to start fitting dashboards with an appreciation button. That gets sent to the other drivers iDrive.

I spend around 30% of my time in the SE and the rest in Yorkshire, for me it's a SE trait everyone is pretty self obsessed and a bit "thrusting" in their approach to driving and once out of the car not that friendly either.

Bit like driving in most places I presume.

People are obsessed with getting where they want to quickly.

Basic courtesy and common sense seems to have gone out of the window.

I partially blame the “ keyboard” generation - too used to messaging , emails and too little actual real human interaction.

Has the right wing in the UK started whining about the "war on Christmas" because people say "Happy Holidays," like they have here in the USA?

There are no fixed speed cameras in County Durham. Maybe they're not needed.

Sorry but I don't agree with the lack of appreciation. It is rare people don't wave thanks here in Sussex. Maybe they are utterly stunned a BMW driver is giving way
However, it would appear we are in the minority in giving way. Everyone appears to be in such a hurry to drive quickly, push push push, but not actually achieve much other than raise eveyone's pulse. More haste less speed? Surrey is noticeably worse than Sussex too

Maybe there's a bit of white van man syndrome here. That's where 10 courteous vans pass you and you don't even notice, then one drives like a DPD dick and you think "bloody van drivers, they're all the same"!!

Lol.

Impression I’m gettimg it might just be an inner city thing. I tend to try and be courteous most of the time - standing aside , holding doors open etc and do find that people are often surprised at that or just barge through.

Get the same lack of appreciation even in the Manta - although does tend to bring out a friendly side when you’re parked up etc, so not just for the idiots (us) in BMW’s
