Primarily based on interior style, I skipped the E90 entirely, going from an '05 E46 330xi to the F30. It was a long wait... The dash arrangement of the E90 was not my style at all, but style is a personal thing. To me, it seems very linear and rather boring, and not focused upon the driver like the E46. Particularly boring looking for me was the looooooong and featureless piece of trim (wood or aluminum) that extended from the driver's bubble all the way to the passenger door. The poster that indicated this reminded them of a Buick hit the nail on the head - that's precisely the reaction I had.

And the E90 cup holders were not a plus either! Niggling point for some, but it's a real oversight, particularly for longer trips!

The F30 returns much more toward that driver-centric look and feel, and updates it to a much more contemporary style as well. I still don't think it's the best interior in it's class, but it's a good design and a very nice improvement.
Thanks for the correction.I knew that didn't seem right while I was furiously typing away.

Member's Only jacket, hottest fashion item of 1981. Functionally, it's still a relevant jacket. It's got pockets, zipper-front, self-adjusting cuffs, mid-weight protects down to 40 degrees. But no one wears them. People pay more money for a lesser jacket. Why? Because it's outdated, that's why.

When you buy a $50,000 German luxury status-symbol, looks matter.

BJ
BJ as "Fashion Forward" as you are, I would think you'd realize Members only Jackets are back in style .Just check Saks or Nordstroms, they have a whole line of them. Everything old is new again . BUt that theory just doesn't hold water when it comes to cars. Just because the newest version of 3 series is out doesn't make the last version any "less" of a car.The E9x is still the great drivers car it was when it was new. There's always that guy who quickly ditches his car that he had been telling everyone was the "greatest luxury car in the world" for the newest "greatest Luxury car in the world" simply because he would dare be seen in last years car.Thats kinda pathetic. If BMW would build a new E46 M3 with a e9X M3 engine under the hood I bet it would sell because a lot of people LOVE the E46's body lines. Its timeless......and come on be honest. That old Members Only jacket is yours ,,isn't it

There you have it simply put. Looks are subjective. I held on to my E46 simply because I love the car interior and exterior. I hope i have it forever.I also picked up a E92 2008 M3 , but for me the interior is all about the seats, the wheel and the way the shifter feels in my hand.It just drives me crazy that people can tear apart the looks of a car simply because they bought the new one(not talking about you of course). Its childish

I guess I'm not one of 'those people', because I'll never drop 60K for a BMW that features the present incarnation of the F30's electronic steering. Either they fix it, or I'll be looking elsewhere, including the upcoming M, which will feature the same or similar approach to the hydraulic steering as found in the E90.

Hmm, I wonder why.

Based on my experience driving the F30, the system is no better or worse than those found in other luxury sport vehicles with similar systems. BMW has effectively eliminated one of the major reasons why people choose a BMW, and given us something 'new', much like the turbo 4 in place of the NA 6.

'New.' That just about sums up the F30. It's a one big compromise with a big 'new' sticker. As a follower of E90Post, I made an informed decision for the proven E90 335 at 10K less than a similarly equipped F30, without a single compromise.

You chose a 'new' F30 328 at the same price.

FYI, my E90 features Sport seats clad in Saddle. And they're spectacular.

Why is it that we're expected to be happy for you but you're not expected to be happy for us?

Why can't you just love your car in your forum without hating on our car in our forum?

If all you wanted was a car to get you from Point A to Point B, that's very valiant of you, go buy a Volkswagen and save some real money.

A BMW is a status-symbol and status-symbols don't age well. You'll learn this lesson very soon.

$10k less?
What was your OTD price, if you don't mind my asking...because I would imagine much more than $10k than a 2012-13 328i...

my only complain about the F30 interior is the cheap as shiit material used. The tactile feeling vs my e46 interior trims, buttons and centre console, e46 which i still drive from time to time is more superior.. but then thats before the EUR zone went to the toilet and margins were better

I'm coming from 6 years in an E93 and E90 and the quality of materials in the F30 is the same. The wood trim, the aluminum, the leather, the plastic on the doors, it's the same. I'm not sure who made up this "the interior feels cheap" myth but it's time it stopped. We've all owned E90's, we know the deal.

The design is 100% better. On that everyone can agree.

BJ - you don't think the dakota leather on the seats is a little more supple in the F30??

I agree regarding the rest of the materials (wood, etc.)

I'm ready to chuck the wood, and welcome the CF interior options...YUM.

The Brits hate Americans since that whole Revolution situation couple hundred years back. I like the English. I've been to London 10 times and watch Wheeler Dealers every week.
