Halogen to LED Upgrade H7

Has anyone upgraded their stock halogen lights with LED bulbs. Im talking about just the H7 low/high beam bulbs. If so, which ones did you use and have you had any issues with flickering? I can code out some stuff if someone sends me the codes for the low/high beams.

How's visibility now? Is it BRIGHT and light up the road a decent distance? I have Diamond Visions but I plan on upgrading to LEDs

While LEDs provide better lighting, the main problem you'll have is the extensive glare they produce. It blinds on-coming traffic and the vehicle in front of you. I tried quite a few different variations in my wife's X3, but could never get rid of the glare and ended up going back to halogen bulbs.

I wanted to originally go with USR halo projectors, but i was a little worried about possible issues and having to take the car bumper off numerous times to correct them. I purchased the "Rigidhorse H7 80W 8000lm 6500K CREE LED Headlight Bulb Conversion Kit, Cool White" from amazon to replace my halogen setup.

Im very impressed with them, mostly because they do not scatter light. They dont produce glare to other drivers, as they were engineered to replicate the location of the filament of a halogen bulb. The light is focused toward the ground and actually have a cut off. Paired with led DRLs, led parking lights, and led front turn signals, and i love my setup.

I did have to code the low beams because they flickered.

Looks like a big heat sink.
Did you have to modify the dust/weather caps on back of headlight housing?
I'm guessing you mounted the LED drivers in the engine bay outside of the headlight housing?

The heat stink isnt that big. There is still plenty room in the headlight housing after installation. Heck, there is even enough room to fit the led drivers in the housing. I mounted them outside of the headlight housing like you assumed. And actually, the led driver and head stink dont get too hot, even after a hour long drive.

Hi,

I suppose you ordered Low Beam: H7 LED Headlight Kit, Do you need to install warning cancellers?
https://www.xenonhids.com/low-beam-h...t.html?i=0vLDk
Please let me know your review after installation, any error display on dash and glare issues? these days with any H7 halogens I feel beaten as most cars even the basic cars come with white lights and we are affected by visibility due to other cars getting high power lights, we are blinded. I got no other option than replacing bulbs as I own F34. Your response is much appreciated. All other fellow members, please suggest me any option that can fit in my car.

The price at your link is at least double what you should be paying. Once you go LED on the lows you wan't want to leave halogens in the highs and fogs, the LEDs are that much better.

Wow! Thank you. Great work on your GT. The level of work you had put in requires lot of facilities. Unfortunately, I don't have a garage to work on my car neither have a spare car to drive while working on the car. So If I am doing it on my own, I have to stick with swapping out the factory H7 with Led with No coding or I have to find a tech shop that can help me through this. I know you mentioned coding is mandatory, all I know is I am not giving up until I find a solution for my case. If you know any techs that can help please let me know.

The only facility I used was my driveway. There's no such thing as no coding LED, no matter what the ads may claim, because the way that halogens and LEDs produce light is fundamentally different. Cars that don't have sophisticated electronics can swap LED for halogen, but BMW does have sophisticated electronics.

Forgive me for jumping in late...

Ive been looking to upgrade my halogens for some time now... other than a compatible, quality bulb - Im hearing that I will need coding as well to complete the upgrade...

Can this be accomplished with BimmerCode? This is the only coding I have done with my vehicle so far...

Hey, so I just bought some LED h7's - will post a review soon, but initially light output is a bit better and beam pattern is similar to halogen (almost no glare)

LEDs are copycats of the Supernova V.3 (from headlight revolution)

Edit: Review Complete!

Please do. Pretty much clueless as to which direction to go at this point. Main goals are a whiter / less yellow color and increased down road visibility. Definitely not into a blue, non factory look. Appreciate any tips and info.

What I have determined so far is:

1. H7 is the low beam part number
2. Coding may be necessary?

What are the other bulb/part numbers? I dont need DRL because I have them coded off. Just high beam and fog...

H7 signifies the shape of the bulb base that fits into the lamp socket and the connector. With LED coding is absolutely necessary. Did you read this? I know you said you came late, but it's posted only three posts above your arrival.

Woops. I have to admit... I am occasionally guilty of typing questions before doing a ton of research before hand.

Appreciate the link. Will definitely be looking at your post in detail when I have a minute or two.

My confusion with the coding aspect is now clear... I am now understanding that switching to LED will require coding for sure while switching to brighter Halogen bulbs like a Sylvania, etc. will not.
