2016 lease rates - what?

My dealer just emailed me the 2016 lease rates for a 340i Msport.

15K miles - 59%
12K - 61%
10K - 62%
MF - .00130

MF is the same as usual, but that residuals are not that great.
It's more Audi like than BMW.

2015 residuals were a good bit higher
15K - 63%
12K - 65%
10K - 66%

If anyone get's something different please let us know.

That's the correct rates. Obviously they want to move the 2015's so the residuals are going to be inflated over the 16's.

Those 2016 residuals look normal for high volume BMWs, in my experience. The 2015 residuals are inflated, even by BMW's standards.

Last year at the beginning of the 2015 model year the residuals were 2% higher.

BMW has always subsidized their leases, nothing new there.
But these residuals are exceptionally low even by BMW standards.
2016 340i would be my 4th BMW lease and to me those residuals are low, especially for a high volume model like the 3 series.

It's even worse for the 2016 2 series.
15k residual is down to 54%!
That makes for a potentially better purchase vs lease given it's lower price.

I wonder if the residuals are this low because by the time these cars are returned back to dealers after the lease ends in 2018; there will be a newer body style

Not sure if this is true of the 2 series though.

I just went over to the Edmunds forums to check - residuals on Audi A4 and A6 models are in the low/mid 50s, with the A4s a bit lower, probably because the pictures of the upcoming car are out in the world now. Any residual for a 10,000 mile lease that begins with a 6 is good, in my opinion.

BMW manages its market share very proactively by manipulating lease rates, so now and then the residuals do bump up higher. But I would not hold out for months waiting for a 65% residual on a 3 or 5 series if you are otherwise ready to go. Possibly the 5 series might get there just before the G20 drops.

Go hang at the Ask A Dealer area on the other forum if anyone wants to verify this with a dealer sponsor.

BMW sees the 2 series as a lower volume, lower demand car. In normal circumstances the residuals will be lower on cars like that. It's the same on the 6 series.

Interesting news, thanks. How often do these numbers change? i.e. is it possible they'll budge much (if any) in August?

Actually, I'm confused about the math. Looking at the current 2015 335iX lease deal (http://www.bmwusa.com/standard/conte...regiontypeid=1), I took the same numbers:

MSRP 53,445
Down payment 3000
Sales tax 6%
Residual 35750 (53445 * 0.66)
MF 0.00130

With the Cars.com calculator (http://www.cars.com/go/advice/financ....jsp?mode=full) and ended up with $551 (versus $459 on the BMW site). What am I missing?

Those figures are fairly typical at beginning of new MY.

BTW, those are July rates. No one in US will receive a MY16 F30 in July unless they are doing ED.

Audi would likely be under 60% @ 10K miles.

I took the 66% from the original post (just trying to get the figures to line up). Even with zero tax, it comes to $520, well higher than the $459 they advertise.

the worst time to lease/buy a car is when it just comes out. wait a few months and watch the rates drop

I plan to lease another 3-series for March 2016. My dealer promised to get in touch with me to place an order at the end of December, when he expects the rate and incentives to be best.

When the first 2013 F30 Msports were released in August of 2012 the lease rates were quite good, pretty much what the 2012 rates were.

I ordered my 2013 335i Msport in June for early July build and I picked it up at the end of August 2012. This was the first round of Msports available in the US.
BMW did not drop the residuals due to the initial release of the 2013 model year along with initial Msport release.
MSRP on my Msport was a bit above $52K
My monthly is very nice.

Ordering a 2016 340i Msport at about the same MSRP, $600 higher this time, my monthly payment will be $42 higher per month.
Granted that's not huge, but it is higher.

MSRP is about the same between the 2015 335i Msport build and my 2016 340i Msport build.
If I were to have received the last 2015 3 series lease rates the payment difference is
$61. That's pretty significant by comparison.
That's about a 12.5% increase due to the lower residuals for a 2016 of the same price.

Seems something may be happening at BMW with their typically better leases.
I just looked up an MB C400 and it's very close in leasing payment compared to the 340i, and I don't recall that being the case before.

10K - 59%

If anyone get's something different please let us know.
I was told July is 59%, but should improve in August

C400 is discontinued and MB is desperately trying to get rid of them in favor of the new C450's (which will most certainly have higher lease rates).

My CA confirmed the OP's numbers. 59% residual for 15k miles, not 10k.

I just spoke with my SA and he tells me what EJL posted that it's possible the res's may go up a point or two by August or later if BMW sells off enough 2015's.

That would be nice.

BTW, I got on the new demo configurator and am comparing an Msport vs a track pkg, and I'm really liking a track pkg. silver with the dark wheels.
Looks sharp.

A track pkg. in the new blue with the 19's looks fantastic too.
Problem with that is that last time I test drove a 335i with 19's I didn't like the ride.

I have to make my final decision soon on the build, SA says status is still 111 (IIRC) but once it goes 112 we must do a final decision asap.
