Drivetrain malfunction after purchase. What would you guys do?
Purchased CPO 3 series less than two weeks ago and encountered the famous drivetrain malfunction. Car went into limp mode but recovered and I got it to a different dealership than the one I purchased from.
Now let me know if I am being over dramatic...But I am kind of pissed I need to pay that $50 deductible 12 days after getting the car. When they ran their diagnostics they saw some fault codes and determined there was a bad cylinder and coils. Now my question is...what kind of CPO inspection did they do where they did not notice that? I ran a diagnostics on day 1 when I did some coding and saw those same faults. Should I try to get the offending dealership to make this right or should I just get over myself. Thanks |

$50 deductible is normal but NOT so soon after you purchased. I had to bring mine in for a rattle and door actuator that failed, they "good willed" the repairs and didn't charge me anything. Raise hell.

Do you think it would be a problem since I did not buy the car from them?

Maybe bring the invoice to the dealer you brought it from to see if they'll refund it. I personally have only dealt with the dealer I brought my car from, seems easier that way with everything done at one shop. Didn't know there was a deductible for warranty repairs on CPO, that makes it less attractive to me now that I know that.

But I am definitely glad I have it. Would suck dealing with this with no warranty for sure. |

My "Drivetrain Malfunction" showed up the next day after purchasing a CPO 300 point inspection car... needless to say, I am working with the dealer and BMW on this.

What kind of inspection did they do? None, or they didn't fix something that they knew they could bill BMW for when it failed under CPO.
Idk why BMW allows dealers to be the ones who certify the car. The dealer has zero incentive to fix anything on the car. BMW will pay the repairs under CPO. Why would the dealer fix something on the car, on their own dime, before they sell it when they can have BMW pay for it after they sell the car? If I were to buy a CPO car I would tell the dealer to fix everything right after the sale and not waste my time, and mention that I would go to a different service department if any defects or services were needed in the first 90 days of owning the car. |

Are you already into the CPO extension period? What year/how many miles is the car? If there is a deductible under the CPO warranty, there certainly is not one under the original factory warranty.

Actually ended up being that the intake vanos was jammed and also had a failing ignition coil. Apparently pretty common failures based on what they told me and what I read, but everything else is good.

I was a bit concerned when I had to get an eccentric shaft replaced and a bunch of related parts - at about 37k miles and after 4 years of CPO ownership. Also had a drivetrain malfunction light. Whenever a metal part inside the engine needs replacing it kind of sucks. So far so good. I would think about asking them to comp the deductible.
