Aux In Port Issues: Static and Buzzing

Hi all,

I'm driving a 2012 F30 with tech package but no HK upgrade. I'm also using a Galaxy S3 with Spotify, so in order to listen to music I need to use the Aux cable.

Up until recently, I've doing this with no complaints about quality. However, I started noticing a pretty sharp drop in quality recently. Specifically, the speakers will play a buzzing sound to accompany the music (it is not a constant buzz).

I've tried listening to music on HD radio channels and it plays very clearly and sounds excellent. I have also tried switching out to another (admittedly cheap) aux cable, but the buzzing prevails.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure if this applies, but I've had a similar issue in the past where I would get terrible static when I was charging my cellphone while it was plugged in to the AUX. Disconnected the phone from the charger and it was static free.

Unfortunately the static persists even when I don't have anything charging.

Your issue sounds pretty terrible too, especially for long trips. Glad you were able to find the source of the static, though.

Any update?

I hate to raise this thread from the dead, but I just noticed the same thing this afternoon with mine. It has never done it before... Anyone have a solution?

My wife had issues and she ended up buying new AUX male to make cables. Fixed the problem.

i know this is an old thread, but i first tried using the aux port with my galaxy s4 today and it was terrible (static noise in the background). it's a cheap, short cable, so maybe a higher quality cable will work?

So I bought a longer high quality aux cable and have the same issue still. Any thoughts?
