UK Base audio upgrade
Started to upgrade the audio in my new F30 320d M Sport
Car has base audio (stereo) and iDrive (No Nav), using setup I had in my E90. Didn't mean to start today just went out this morning to check to see if the harness that I got from Technic for my E90 would work in the F30 and it does (Photos attached showing harness) Going to install the following kit:- Alpine PXE-H650 Audio Processor JL XD700/5 700W 5 channel amp Focal 100KRS K2 - Not sure if I can use these yet ( will need to see if there is speaker mounts available) Threads which helped:- B33M3R's - Full Audio install ( used this as a base guide for my e90 ) http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...t=Focal+100KRS Jason's - F30 iDrive removal http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=716189 So far I have got all the harness's installed from the front to the rear, and have striped the boot but have slowed down a bit has I have had to make mounts out of mdf to hold the AMP and audio processor. Have decided to mount the amp and audio in the space were the cd changer would go (pics to come), tried to mount the processor in the same I had it in the e90 (shown in the attached pics) but there is not the same room in the F30. off on monday so hopefully I'll get some more done. |

Update
Got more done today, AMP and Processor wired up, remote on working ok from harness.
Got some car carpet which doesn't match to bad, and covered the mounts for the amp and processor. Have Got all the car trim back to together again wasn't easy but managed to do it, would of been easy if I could of removed the back part of the rear seats but the catch is different and wasn't able find the release. This would be a good DIY if someone could find out how to do it. Still got more to do but back to work tomorrow. |

Update
Fitted Techinic's jumpers to the connector for the underseat subs and Ran new wiring to the sub from the amp, Will amp the oem speakers till I yet ones to replace them.
Powered on the audio processor and ran through the setup, measure 9 positions for the Audyssey auto calibration, could have done more but have to redo it anyway when I upgrade the speakers. So far the improvement is noticeable it sounds much better than oem equalised but still lacks the quality which will come from components up front and upgrade rear speakers, Hopefully will get the trim parts ordered soon and make some mounts for the door speakers. So did the Focals fit into the doors? Moreover, I've heard that the inner space of the door is opened to water therefore is there additional protection needed to prevent from weather conditions?
Moreover, does such audio upgrade void the warranty? Could you as well provide an overall update on the progress and your review of the new sound system in place vs base Last edited by Algis; 01-11-2013 at 09:13 AM.. |

Hey! Any info on how you did the wiring? What about the tuning on the XD700/5, did you keep the tuning settings standard and let the DSP do the job?

Update
Finally got sometime to update this, been meaning to do it for a while.
Focal 100KRS K2 components installed in front doors using 808Mguy’s Speaker Adaptor Rings which I previously used in my e90, HK window trim ordered from BMW and tweaker installed and fitted. Ordered oem speaker connectors to keep it all plug and play so the door guard can be easily removed if necessary. Used a couple of plastic washers between the door and the adaptor rings to allow for the bolts heads (used to secure the speaker to the adaptor) and used thick weather seal foam to seal the gap up. Crossover installed to back of door guard, wires run in braided Sleeve to keep it neat. Skinz wave diffuser foam used to stop sound bouncing around the inside of the door guard, Skinz's sound deading was used on the door (not pictured). Door guard back in place, HK grill installed FOCAL 100CA1 installed in the rear doors, aluminum Speaker Adaptor Rings purchase on ebay. OEM speakers removed, there is more room between the glass and the metal than in the front OEM underseat Subwoofers replaced for MB Quart QMW200. OEM Subwoofer enclosures removed, Stereo system has the subwoofer glued into the enclosures so gets a bit messy when removing them with a hot air gun. Out with the old, you can see the amount of glue used to secure the sub to the enclosure. Weather seal foam used to make a good seal when the new subs are bolted in. New sub installed back in the car. Oem cover back in place. |

I have just done mine. UK base stereo 6 speakers. Thanks to the OP and Technic's 4/6 harness and support.
Rainbow component speakers front, oem rear and underseats with JBL MS-8. Not tuned yet but sounds solid already. Amp and subs soon. |
