De-uglifying F34 M Sport rear bumper

Am I crazy to be considering this?

I've always thought that the F34 M Sport rear bumper was a total give-up. In fact, I much prefer the standard rear bumper. I occurred to me that a bit of creative paint work might produce something that actually looks pretty darn good.

I'm not actually sure, however, how a single panel painted two different colors would actually look.

Has anyone ever done anything like this?

Don't like the top one (stock?). Looks disjointed. Middle one isn't bad for non-M. Bottom looks like no line stock? What would the M one look like all one color?

I don't have a problem with how the rear bumper looks. If anything, the exhausts should gloss black or black chromed.

Top is M Sport. Middle is no line. Bottom is my idea (no line with faux diffuser painted on the rear bumper panel).

I used alpine white teaser pics from bmwusa.com, but mine is EBII, and I've already replaced the stock tips.

Interesting. I prefer the way the rear looks in ///M Sport but I suppose that's as helpful as arguing over our favorite color.

What I will say is two things:
1. the front strongly needs ///M Sport to look properly aggressive IMO. When viewed from that light you didn't have much choice.
2. Unlike E89 Z4s that have the same style gray outline in their ///M Sport bumpers (see here) the special sDrive35is has its painted in the body color (see here). I guess what I'm saying is if you painted it body colored it wouldn't be totally unprecedented.

Indeed.

Agree 100%. We gave fairly serious consideration to the luxury line, but the front (and the steering wheel) ultimately made the M Sport a must-have.

The difference to me is that the shape of the Z4 rear bumper adds some visual interest. The F34 M Sport rear bumper is simply big and bulbous and not much else. I don't have the graphics skills to mock up an all Estoril Blue M Sport rear, but I suspect it would look way too much like the Boise State University football field.

My hope in starting this thread was to find out two things.
  1. How expensive/difficult would it be to retrofit the non-M Sport rear bumper?
  2. Is it possible to use the existing "seam" in the no-line rear bumper to create a realistic illusion of a separate diffuser?

I "wrapped" (electrical tape) my rear bumper in the seam of my sport line. See the last 2 pics in this thread http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1037434. I've kept it that way. I prefer it to the all white.

I like it! My wife is going to hate me for this.

Yeah, the WAF (wife acceptance factor) is low on this one.

And you didn't have to rebuild your rear bumper first.
