Securing in trunk, velcro devices dont work. Now what?

Well that was a dissapointment. I have always been used to securing luggage in the trunk with velcro-devices such as this:

I happily take out my bag of car neccesities (ice scraper, gloves, high-visability jackets, etc) which has velcro on the bottom. Nothing. It doesn't stick to the bottom. BMW is the first brand I know that doesn't let you secure things to the trunk bottom with velcro. WTF?

So, how do you guys keep things from sliding around in the trunk? I have the cargo net, sure, but that doesn't always work nearly as neatly or nicely as these things...

Well yes, I said that. But that doesn't give the freedom of securing something to the side or back very well, without blocking space for other things...

2017 430i GC. The ones I showed don't stick. Nor do they stick to the 2013 3 touring my sister has.

I might go try those if they do, for that price.

badbread's link into Amazon is a good place to look around for various trunk organizers. There's several different types there.

Do the 4 series and 3 series touring not have the standard carpet like material in the trunk like the 3 series has? If so, those probably won't work..

This is a passion of mine.

I purchased a new half-width (square) milk crate and bungie corded it to a corner of the trunk using the tie down closest to it. This holds small towels, and some car care spray products. This is super easy to remove, and the mesh crate is convenient to hook other tie down devices to.

I keep an assortment of niteize.com S Binders and CamJam solutions onboard. I even have the smallest S Binder on my keys for quickly adding my "beater car" keys on snow days. Gotta love Nite Ize!

Another nice solution that I find works really well are ROK Straps. These motorcycle-orientated tie downs that have a nice amount of stretch. I keep a small black one across the two rear-most tie down points. This is great place to snug down something small, but it's also strong enough to hold a metal ammo box with 400 rounds inside without issue. http://www.rokstraps.com/moto.html

Maybe when I'm outside with my car I'll capture some images to help people understand...

Which S binder is that? The micro binder on the site seems too big. I have a bunch of titanium ones like the one you have, but honestly, titanium is too soft and my keys come off the ring too easily because the clips get bent.

Thanks for linking those, I might give them a try. You think they're strong enough to stop a suitcase rollerboard from knocking around? Sometimes when I go to the airport I can hear mine thumping around back there in the trunk.

Definitely, they hold like a MoFo. I've secured many heavy things with them and they work great.

I have the L shaped holders with velcro on one side, but only soft rubber strips on the other side. Using the rubber side under works

No, it doesn't stick to the bottom of the trunk, but I see no reason why you couldn't buy some heavy duty velcro pads from home depot (or some sheet rubber for friction) to make it happen, maybe when the weather gets warmer I might do a few experiments. I actually have enough stuff in the tray that it really doesn't move around that much. For at least 6 months of the year, I have my trunk liner in the trunk so that I don't soil the carpet with water/salt/slush when I put my rollaboard briefcase/suitcase in the trunk. I never really had an issue with my tray sliding around unsecured. I'm sure if I drove more aggressively, maybe it might slide around a bit more.

This is really sad. I thought I was the only person silently brooding over the lost of this feature, in the 2017 4 Gran Coupe. I used to drive a 328i. Got 2017 430i Grand Coupe in Q4 2016.

I can no longer use velcros to secure items to the trunk floor liner in the Gran Coupe. The material in the previous car was compatible with most types of velcros, and it made life so much easier. I had velcros cut to various lengths, and just "taped" stuff to the trunk floor as needed. This was especially useful for carrying all sorts of RC model airplanes, parts and equipment.

But none of these work anymore, on the new trunk carpet. So, now I find there was at least a few more people who have taken advantage of the velcro-compatibility in the past.

Sad.

I have this and it doesn't slide around at all in the trunk. Target carries it as well. I actually got a 3 pack of these from Costco on sale for a little under $20.

Here are illustrations of what I am talking about

Guys, I don't think you guys understand what I am doing with the Velcro strips.

See these pictures.

I carry RC model airplanes. I can't use containers to carry them. That's the whole point of getting a sedan with backseats that completely fold. When I saw the Gran Coupe, I knew it was a car made for me. But sadly, you gain some and lose some. Velcros no longer stick to the trunk floor. Sad.
