How do these two not make the list. The rear end has to be the ugliest of all time.

From a company that gave birth to an E46 M3; the BMW "i3" was a baby with Down Syndrome.

My mom had an AMC Pacer when I was young and it was ugly on the outside and worst on the inside. Plastic seats would burn your but and smell like plastic.

For the original question, I'm not sure, but I suggest you ask Toyota. Every car they make is super ugly, except maybe the pick up trucks.

As for the E60, I loved the look of mine.

Except the fact that the grills were a bit weak, I really thought it was a aggressive yet classy looking car. It was the last mainline BMW that didn't too closely resemble and Accord.

Not my car, but found a rear view that I think looks good as well.

That vertical line of the rear trunk going down the quarter panel all the way to the bumper ruins the line of the car and makes it look like the car ends short. That design didn't catch on and that was the end of it. The f10 looks much nicer. Guys with bangle cars should really look at how his lines really messes up the idea of flowing lines.
Front of bmw will be bmw's but the back end bangle didn't produce one good looking rear, this 5er included.

That line never bothered me on the 5, maybe that's why it looks better in black. I agree 100% about the 6 and 7 though.

The F10 is OK, but there is certainly nothing remarkable about it. Boring even. The E90 too. After all these years, I still never grew to like it.

The horizontal "crease line" along the sides through the door handles on every car since the E90 is unattractive in my opinion. That's why I have preferred the Audi exterior styling since about 2005. The E60 was the last car not to have that.

What bothers me about that trunk is it makes a mess of the crease line and the trunk line in the back. The lines are at 2 different levels. It is like someone was drunk and was trying to draw a straight line. It is no surprise that the Bangle years is when Audi started it's comeback.
F10 may be a little bit boring but it will be a timeless design like the e39. The e90 didn't turn me on either, that was why I got the B8 Audi S4. Now traded in for the 440GC.

2022 BMW X3  [9.83]
2015 BMW M3  [6.50]
Bangle was the guy who introduced "Flame Surfacing" to the Z4...another fail.

Yes, the Mercedes "R-Class" which was also referred to as the "hearse" was pretty ugly. The 3- and 5-series GTs are also shamefully disfigured, and, in my opinion, so is every single "SUV" (marketing-ese for "truck") and "crossdresser" or whatever they call them.

To get back to the original topic, Bob Lutz discussed how the Aztek came to be in his Road & Track column a while back. Basically the top man on the project browbeat everyone to squelch dissent. The car met all of their goals and they were myopic in their evaluations. Market research showed the car to be a disaster but internally they had made up their minds that this was a show stopper. The problem came down to dictatorial management.

Who knows, if Breaking Bad was popular before the Aztec was dropped, it might have been more successful.

Car and Driver wrote a great article on the Aztec when it came out. They were going through the many available accessories like the tent etc, and said it had every possible feature you might need except exterior barf bags.

Well, the Z4 has grown on me hard. I actually love it. A co-worker of mine bought one recently, and it is nice to look at daily.

Yes the Mercedes with the sloping rears aren't so good and it's those lines that make the touring look so goofy. And the BMW GTs and Xs aren't my cup of tea either. The front grills just start to take over. Soon it might resemble a domestic pick-up truck.

Bangle's design of the vertical line you mention must have been inspired by the Kia Rio. Sad.

What should we have expected from Bangle. After all, he was the genius that designed this hot mess....

This is what I thought. No group of people allowed to speak their minds would have looked at the final design of the Aztek and said "This is beautiful. Let's build it." It would take a single person with influence and bad taste to get that car built.

5. Nissan Juke
6. Nissan Cube
7. Buick Encore
8. Toyota Echo
9. Current Toyota Corolla (gaping black-hole grille model)
10. Chrysler Pacifica
11. Chevrolet Aveo
12. Mazda 2
13. Honda CR-Z
14. Lincoln MKT
15. Chevrolet Spark
16. Chevrolet Volt (previous gen)
17. Toyota Prius C
18. BMW X2/X4/X6 (can't even stand to look at one)
19. Subaru Tribeca (with the urinal-shaped grille)
20. Porsche Panamera
21. Ford Edsel
22. Pontiac Trans Sport
23. AMC Marlin
24. Plymouth Valiant (early 1960s)
25. Jeep Compass

OK, I'm tired of typing, but the list goes on. Google "ugliest cars" and try to control your stomach.
Pretty good list.
I would add the Porsche Cayenne. That is one fugly looking SUV, especially with no "style kit" on it.

There was a previous gen Lexus SUV too that looked like an elongated boiled egg, but I don't remember the model number, but I remember it's ugly shape.

Now, sometimes a car design can be so whacky that I can actually like it's quirkiness. For me the AMC Pacer was such a car. That thing was VERY odd looking, but somehow I liked it for whatever reason.
Also, I liked the previous gen Chevy Volt. It was one of the first electric cars that didn't go style whacked just to shout that it is different.
Thus, the Toyota Prius fits your list nicely.

I like the Pacifica's shape overall. It was an interesting design on a family station wagon. Sort of a cross between a modern SUV and station wagon.
Took one on a long weekend trip and it was pretty nice for 6 adults, roomy and comfy, nice ride too. Rental version had NO power though. Big and heavy with not enough ooomph. Scarry trying to pull into traffic. After my first attempt I decide to wait for MUCH bigger gaps in traffic before attempting to merge.

No such issues with my 340i btw.

But, when he was still a designer he actually drew the E46, and that was one of the best looking 3 series of all time.
The "butt" cars were when he became the styling director, and thus it was under his watch and approval, but I don't think he actually penned the "bangle butt".
