Why has there been a sudden surge in "How to break in?" threads? It's irritating.

Never heard of braking in an exhaust. I don't think you'll have anything to worry about!

Yes. Turn the car on. Drive the car. Feel the difference in engine response. Listen to improved exhaust sound.

Repeat as needed...

break in exhaust....

I've heard you have to hit the rev limiter in 6th (8th in AT) for at least 30 seconds to break in the exhaust. Otherwise the tone won't be even throughout the range.

^ This.

If redlining final drive in the 8AT is possible...
*cough* overdrive *cough*

7th is an overdrive gear as well actually... A few bolt-ons/remap should resolve this. A new exhaust, for instance!!

I assume the 6th gear in the MT is an overdrive too?

I believe it's slightly too tall for 155mph and redline, but not too much.
155mph in the 330d 6MT allowed for 600-700rpm more 'till rev limiter.

I don't think there's a specific procedure rather than it normally just takes about 1000 miles or so before the exhuast is broken in.

Rev the engine to about 6500 rpm and listen closely.. Few minutes after you wont hear a thing.

If you dont break it in properly the muffler bearings will seize up.
Some of the questions on this forum are really f-ing stupid.

LOL, the "break in" the OP is referring to is the exhaust smell break in...ie, the cotton/packing used in the muffler burning, which is normal as you drive and break it in...there's no procedure OP, drive it like you stole it. Literally. And tape it, so we can enjoy the tone..

actually no, your "f-ing" stupid, because you have no idea what youre talking about. i found out that exhausts do break in, there is no procedure but they do break in.
"i wasn't in the car but
from what i heard - no.
it's a well mannered tone - i'm sure in the coming weeks it'll break in." coming from frankie90, im pretty sure he knows what he is talking about.

Actually, mufflers have packing inside. There is chemicals and residue from manufacturing, beat the shit out of it and get it hot. It will smell for a bit and smoke, but will go away.
