Seems to be true:

Thanks for the help.

Even if there is a trade, that's irrelevant to the negotiated selling price.
Once you've negotiated a selling price, then your trade comes off of the selling price, as the trade in value goes towards the purchase, or cap cost reduction on a lease.

That's why you should ALWAYS keep a trade in separate from a selling price negotiation. IOW, selling price and trade in should be handled as 2 separate transactions, and NEVER mix the 2.
You can find a trade value using bluebook or edmunds.com.

I like Carmax as a resource too.
It takes 15 to 30 minutes. Take your car in, they will look at it, drive, and give you an offer. Now you know what you can get for your car from someone who is willing to give you that much.
You can now use that offer to gauge your dealers trade in offer.
Remember, an added benefit to trading in to your dealer is that in most states, you will NOT pay sales tax on the trade in value.
Example: If Carmax offers $10K, you have $10K in your hand for your new purchase. If your dealer offers $10K and your state tax is 8%, the the actual value of your trade is $10K + 8% of that ($800)= $10,800.
In that scenario your dealer is offering a better trade in value.

How does a college grad (within 1 yr of graduating) have a "gross income to debt ratio <45%" for the college grad discount. Assuming student loans don't count, no mortgage, no credit card debt, 3 series price of $45K, you wound have to land a job grossing $100K. Are they no including the cost of the car in their calculation? Has anyone actually qualified for this yet?

It's based on monthly payment, not purchase price.

$5,000 monthly gross income * 0.45 = $2,250. So your existing monthly expenses can not be higher than $2,250 in this scenario to qualify.

Got same deal from same CA as the OP. Invoice plus:
225 maco
180 training
199 doc

I consider that to be 599 over invoice (let's call it 600), so, w/the Team USA discount, I consider my deal to be 400 under invoice. Guess it depends on how you look at it - either way, very happy w/it.

Technically that's an invoice deal, before the Team discount.
Remember MACO and training are part of the actual invoice.
Doc fee is something all dealers have at various prices.

Overall with Team discount, you got a $1000 BELOW invoice deal, which is very sweet. Congrats!

If my local dealer can't match this then maybe I'll take a little trip up north! Congrats on a great deal!

For mine I have to add the registration but that will be minimal. I've just transfered the tags from the '07 to the '09 and now to the '13. I don't qualify for most of those other dicsounts (new grad, military, etc) but given this is my fourth car in 5 years (3 BMWs and one VW) from the same place they treat me right. I check the production number every week. Can't wait to get the new car!
