When I bought my Jeep they didn't even recognize it. I even printed the offer out, had them talk with USAA and even had USAA fax over the standing offer. Good luck!

You know this is a very good question... According to my dealer, they claim the discounts are "rebates" and taken off the FINAL sales price, WITH tax WITH fees, etc.

So if the price is $55k out the door (including taxes, fees, etc.) then the Team USA discount, loyalty discount, etc. come AFTER that out the door price, instead of coming off the sale price of the vehicle PRIOR to taxes & fees.

This results in about $300-400 more taxes & fees since the vehicle purchase price is more expensive than if the discount were applied to the vehicle purchase price. Does this sound right, or should all rebates/incentives apply to the pre-tax amount?

Any input?

Just heard back from the dealer and he will try to straighten out with the business manager and let me know. He said that it ends me paying more tax for the car and they don't make money of off that. The BMW drive event discount says it cannot by applied to tax title fees ect to me that means is pre tax.
I'll update the forum once I hear

Can someone clarify what makes you eligible for the USAA discount? My understanding was that it is $1000 credit for a 328i if I use BMWFS. USAA told me I only have to provide the dealership my insurance card.

I currently have my auto insurance and a credit card with USAA. I assumed I was eligible, but my CA just told me "In order to get the USAA rebate you must have the ability to purchase property and casualty insurance."

I'm not sure if that means I qualify or not?

If you're a USAA member in good standing, then you qualify. You don't even have to have their auto insurance.

Have you considered calling USAA and asking? I've always found their telephone service to be remarkably helpful.

Yes, as I mentioned I spoke to USAA and they told me that all I had to do was present my USAA card. I called them back and they printed a letter for me to take to the dealership. I should be all set.

My dealer needed a letter from usaa saying I was a member, because dealerships give u the discount then ask Usaa for the $ back. I used the drive event and 750 Loyalty cash. Bmwfs had better interest rate then usaa

I don't have any definitive information, but FWIW I've never heard of a manufacturer discount or rebate ever coming out of anything other than the base price.

For this to be true, what this in effect would mean is that the rebate amount varies in value depending on your local state/municipality and the state tax in effect there. In a 9% location, the rebate would be worth less than in Delaware, where there's no sales tax. How does that make sense for BMW? The administrative overhead alone would outweigh the potential savings.

I'm confused, is he saying that applying the discount "pre tax" would somehow result in more taxes for you? (I'd like to see him justify that!) Or is he agreeing with you that it doesn't seem right to take the rebate off of the total amount (that includes taxes and fees)?

Delaware DOES have a sales tax for cars. Little known fact...

My dealer initially tried to take it off after taxes, however, I called up USAA and they insisted that it should be taken off before taxes since it's a discount, not a rebate. Therefore, I'm going to push to get it taken off pre-tax, that's an extra $131 that would go to the state!

I got final word they won't do it before taxes , they said the finance people need it noted as a rebate.... E-mailed USAA and they said it's different for every state and I have to work with my dealership and the DMV. Now that's a losing battle....

^^ That's weird. I haven't finalized my paperwork yet, but my CA gave me a hard quote, and had the USAA $1500 come off the before tax price. He was familiar with the discount, and didn't blink an eye. I watched him take it out of the pre-tax price on his computer right before my eyes.

Can anyone else comment from California? They said this is a California state rule. $1,500 comes off after taxes cuz it's a rebate...

My CA told me yesterday that the USAA rebate for the 328i Sedan when leasing through BMWFS dropped from $1000 in 2012 to only $500 in 2013. I thought it was $1000 rebate for all models when leasing through BMWFS.

Can someone confirm?

The USAA website still says $1500 on the 3-series ($1K for 320i). Yes that drops to $1000 when using BMWFS, but I don't see any language about going down to $500. Sounds like your CA is trying to screw you. I'd call USAA.

As far as I know, all discounts are applied before taxes unless your state is offering some sort of tax abatement. Generally, the lower the car price, the lower the sales/excise/titling (depending on which state you live in) tax, although some jurisdictions base part of their taxes on the car's weight. Dealers and manufacturers are fully within their bounds to raise/lower the car price. They have no authority to alter the tax rate. That lack of authority is why discounts are before applying the tax.

Thanks.

I see the offers here: http://usaa2.zag.com/promo1.html?pro...ewer.promo.bmw

But what I don't see/read is anything about the amount of rebate if you finance using BMWFS. Am I just missing it, or is there another page I should be looking at?
