Thinking about M Perf exhaust, anyone ever hated it after?
Honest question here, has anyone ever put the M Perf exhaust on their N20 and disliked it enough to put the old one back on?
I have listened to countless video clips, but no one locally has one or I'd likely not be posting this! |

I agree with the above posts. I think the MPE gives a nice additional sound without going over the top, keeping it classy...
IMHO, of course...

I was worried that it was going to be too loud, it's only audible with the windows down. Very stock-esque (Sp?). I got mine b/c the car was rear ended and the dealer did an upgrade however for $1K or so, I think its a bit pricey. I would look into AA which has good reviews and some proven (although small) hp increase. The BMW unit does not add any HP or reduced weight. Regardless, its really the way the car should have sounded from the factory vs. a performance upgrade. As a manual transmission driver - its critical to add the sound ques to shift.

On the other hand, I could suggest that throttle response in these cars is electronically managed (Eco/Comfort/Sport/Sport+) so changing the can won't change the throttle response per se. The bit about the epiphany and sexual attractiveness is also true btw, however I was coming off a low base to begin with. |

I didn't experience the car without it since I had it installed at the port.
But, irrigardless of the lack of comparison, I'm very happy with the way it sounds. Last car was an e90 335 with PPK and MPE, and the sound was intoxicating. I know I risk being flamed for saying this, but to me the sound isn't all that different on my 328i wagon than it was on the 335i. Obviously there are varied differences but the 328i sound is great. I was worried it would be a little fart-can-ish with the smaller engine size but it's quite throaty. I still have a tiny complex since going to the smaller engine, but it's peppy and they didn't offer the wagon with the n55 in the states.

I was only disapointed right after I installed it because it was a little "too" quiet and I wanted a bit more sound. However, after a few hundred miles to break-in, I am very happy with the sound now. Not too loud to be obnoxious but a nice growl when you want it. Just the right tone in the cabin to shift by the sound of the engine without a drone at cruising speed. In fact, there is no drone at all as far as I can tell.
If you want to wake your neighbors in the morning or let everyone else know you are driving by. "You" might be disappointed in the MPE on a 328i. cloner |

^^ This echos my sentiments as well. My old 3'er had a Dinan exhaust which was more subtle as idle and lower RPMs but opened up dramatically at higher RPMs. Forced Induction engines just aren't conducive to this though. You can't have it all I imagine.
