I'm a little like Terry as my 'commute' can be to anywhere.

Last week:
Southend (96 miles to my office)
Leeds
Manchester
Bedford - whohay!

This week:
Home (work from home)
London (train)
Bolton
Southend

This is why I want and quiet cruiser!

45 miles each way.
10 miles town. Rest M way.
50mins - hour usually.
Mostly fairly moving traffic, cause opposite to way most ppl are going. But still long distance.
Unlike today need to go into town to go into BMW to get touch up paint for stone chip on my newish motor. So am wasting time cause I'm dreading the stop start traffic to dealer.

Get up, breakfast and coffee. Go into the study to avoid the cleaner and gardener. Bit of work for a course I'm doing, make lunch, down to golf course for a few holes (1 mile each way). Back home, go for a run, dinner, pick up missus from Station.

One or two days a week I drive to Citizens Advice in Hatfield which is 8 miles each way. Oh and tomorrow, I'm popping down to London to go to the dentist (couldn't be arsed to change and then a couple of beers with ex-colleagues)

Sometimes I wonder where I used to find the time for commuting.

Yep, most days is wake up, scratch balls, visit bathroom, make coffee, wander into study, look at laptop, mooch around for a while, answer the odd email, get dressed, go to the pub, roll home, fall asleep, wake up when the phone goes...

Some weeks it's commuting up to Camden on the train. Other weeks it's driving a Hertz car up the A/M23/M25 to Heathrow, checking in to the hotel for the week and driving from there into Woking each day. Only once did the Heathrow commute in the 340i after which I vowed I wouldn't put any more business miles on my car.

Not sure Hawaii is that nice I would want the very long commute to get there twice in such quick succession - took me 27 years between trips (although I will be going twice this year....)

We were out there earlier this month for only 10 days purely for house hunting and will go again probably for a month in October when we have a bit more time

Oahu is not brilliant but we love Maui and Kauai

My morning commute consists of me driving the kids 3 miles to school and then back home again to stare at my laptop to see if anyone has sent me any emails before 9am.

I wonder why my first service is now due at 12k miles

Depending on route, 13-15 miles tops to work.

However from where I am to Dorking crosses the A3 and the M25, so when either of those roads are slow, the entire area in between gets fucked.

So in the car, on a good day with "regular", looking at 45-50 mins. Slow, boring drive. Roadworks seem to be everywhere and have been for the last 12 months at least. Inevitably get held up by a number of people who think 28mph is appropriate for all roads (mostly windy single carriageway) signed at 30 up to 60mph, which fucks me off no end. To top it off, if there's any rain, the roads are covered in mud and shit, as there's no kerbs on many of them.

On a bad day - such as Friday afternoon - it can easily take 1hr 15 mins.

The joys.

Hence, I take the motorbike most days regardless of what the weather is doing. It's a guaranteed 35mins tops.

Sometimes if the weather's ok, I'll train it in with the mountainbike, and do a nice 18 mile (90% offroad) route which takes about 15 mins longer than going home in the car - 30 mins longer if I stop at the pub halfway home!.

Molokai is nice but the wife is frightened of getting Leprosy

We are looking to purchase in the Hana area of Maui, if it was OK for Lindbergh it should be OK for us

This then leads to a blast along the M54 where again fat arses cousin sits at 68 mph in the outside lane for mile after mile. Then another nice bit of town driving on the other end to finish off a 1 hour or so drive.

Drive back home is very simillar just a bit quieter and so can get up a bit more speed . Just annoys me when on the A road just as you engage sport and hit it hard you round a bend to meet fat arse on his way home.

Almost tempted to stay at work a bit longer just for a quieter road home !!

So what's your daily tale of woe ???
Birmingham to Telford doesn't sound like such a bad run.

My commute is a choice of four different routes each around 12 miles and taking 20 minutes. The faster roads are the A44, A424 and A429 (the 424 is a particularly good road) and the more scenic village routes are mainly B roads.

I rarely have a problem with traffic but when I do it's usually a tractor.

My commute 4 days a week : mostly rural roads, 6.5 miles each way, 3 roundabouts, no traffic lights. 8-9 minutes.
The fifth day of the week it's 40 miles each way, about an hour.

My commute starts on Sunday, 200 mile drive down to the hotel, then Monday in the office, the rest of the week is spent out with customers or like this week working from home.

I don't like the Sunday bit as it ruins the day (and therefore I don't feel like I get a weekend) but I get lots of flexibility the rest of the time.

So some weeks it's 400 miles others it can 600-700.

I'll wave to you (except I think you mentioned A1?). I am sort of relocating but have a boot in both camps so never know what to call home and still seem to be doing the M1 (j29 to j8) most Sunday eve's....

Although once I stop doing that I wont really need a car so maybe I should enjoy whilst I can!

About 2.5 miles to work, takes me either 5 or 10 mins depending on 4 sets of lights being green
