Not just an F series, but a F80, F82 or F83 ONLY unless you want to do major surgery.

So I just ordered this shifter at a great price. Someone needs to figure this out!

I am talking to a few people in Europe to see what coding is required.

I'll keep you all posted on my findings.

I'm pretty sure we will find the answer in Russia.

Update #1

I spoke to EleBest PTD LTE out of Singapore.

They offer an option, I suppose it's wring directly to the shifter, they only offer the shifter a the low price of $2360 USD lol.

I would only consider this if a bunch of people would chip in and we could duplicate the work done.

But I would never spend that much myself on a shifter.

I have someone in France looking into it. Sent some messages to China, Russia and Switzerland.

I'm sure we will get an answer eventually on doing the proper coding to the car.

I like how you're literally searching all over the world for an answer.. lol

$2360 huh? So basically, use the money to go FBO or get a shifter. Nice.

Hey, someone has to do it for us! I hope someone finds an answer. Hell, if I get my hands on one, I may mess around with it.

True. Do you have a link for the seller you got it from? I may pick one up and work on it if I have time.

My seller only had one but here are some others. Now I hope I'm not wrong and the f10 and F80 use the same part.

As I posted before in post 45, you will need major surgery on f10 unit.

Shifter and electronics are same.

Exterior fitment isn’t.

You will totally need to dissect both f10 and f30 shifter and you will need to use your current shifter as a donor unit.

It’s very delicate work and not for faint of heart.

There are no DIY, Videos or the like. BMW does not document as shifters are not made to be taken apart. You are pretty much on your own.

Well maybe it's time to get a 2nd shifter f30 and get this party started.

Still cheaper than the $2300 I was quoted today.

Would have been cheaper to buy a proper M3/M4 shifter for $250 and not worry about the surgery.

Then again, you are linking people to buy M5 shifter WITH SMASHED INDICATOR so I understand attention to detail might not be your thing...even after I tried to warn you on 1/17/2017

ik6speed yes totally my mistake, I'll edit my previous post.

Yes as you said it attention to detail is not my best, should of done a little more research.

But again anything is possible so I'll see what I can make happen.

If I'm going to perform a surgery I'm better off getting them as cheap as possible

And for those interested in not making mistakes, if you have an older F3x design shift like below (leather on M Shifter) you have other issues to consider as well.

These clearly need surgery.

Dang, with F3X years have that one? I have a '13 and still have the same design as the F8X one.

That being said, I'll look into it once I get time, so no promises here.

Zero problems but the error message. Shifter fully unlocks once the car is on and the brake is pressed.
Ok good news,

I've spoke to a coder in Switzerland that is very intrigued by this project and said he is willing to land a helping hand.

You can send him a message
Bmwupgradech@gmail.com

He will see what kind of coding could possibly be done.

On my side I will be looking for a used F30 shifter and will open them up to compare, one option we are looking at is possibly using the PDC button to replicate the unlock button on the f30 shifter.

I don’t get why people are so interested in this?

If shifting is issue, why not retrofit paddles?

I have a M Sport Leather/Ceramic Shitfer that I much prefer over this alone with paddles. Waiting to upgrade to M6 paddles at some point.

I just do not get the allure of the M3/M4 shifter

So after doing some research found another person that has done the retrofit.

The are located in Turkey, so I asked how he made it work.

Probably since English is not his 1st language he gave me the most vague answer.

"Must combine two gears"

Again that goes with the answer I got from Indonesia. Seems like a connection has to be made in the shifter and not in coding.

Possibly the trick would be to connect the drive and unlock wires from the car to the drive connection on the shifter

The wire inside hacking up the circuit board makes sense as the 10 pin connector on the F30 and M3 has pinouts that both go to the identical places in the car.

The bad news is the shifter has to be taken apart and that’s on a 10/10 scale as there are no diagrams (unit is not supposed to be taken part) and it’s very delicate inside there.

It’s not brain surgery, but it’s damn close.

Furthermore, BMW requires a change in a M3/M4 coding whenever the gearshift is replaced with a new unit.

So I still do not believe that coding can be dismissed yet.

I still do not understand the appeal of this retrofit.

It's like any modification, you do it cause it's different, cause it doesn't belong there.

When you succeed you start something new.

But that's great info you posted have to keep looking
