Coding your F30.

Im sure a few of you will be aware that you are able to recode your F30 so that some of the functions that annoy you or you would like can be switched on, off or changed.
There are a couple of things that I would like switched off, such as the ASS (Automatic Start Stop) or at least so that the default setting is off rather than on. It's not called ASS for no reason.
I'd also like the Video In Motion selected to off so that the front passenger can utilize the TV/Internet whilst the car is moving.

The following thread has all the info you'll need.
http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=696777

I should have my car in the next week or so and will post my results when Im done.

Careful you don't turn your new car into an expensive brick!

Have been following that thread for a couple of weeks, it's interesting alright.

Excluding ASS, I think we can set a lot of these ourselves, and the dealer should call to ask us our preferences for some of them also.

Still not sure if I want ASS on or off as a default though. Pushing one more button at start-up wouldn't worry me though I say that now... might be a different story down the track.

Pan - you have no idea how happy I am that someone else is going to guinea pig the coding for us. Svache's thread is pretty good and I was pretty curious about the things that are possible so please, by all means let us know how you go and which ones are worth it etc.

I've done the same type of thing previously with my E92 - TV in motion, legal disclaimer, digital speedo, LCI lights. The interface and software are slightly different with the F30, but the principles are the same. I imagine I'll be giving it a go at some point. The legal disclaimer in particular is just begging to be removed

The other advantage is having the ability to read error codes and diagnose problems with the car.

Hey Chris,

I have ordered all the parts to build my own cable and have downloaded the software. Just need the damn car now

The great thing about Coding is you're not actually replacing or overriding the onboard software like for instance "Jailbreaking" an iPhone. Coding is probably the wrong verb to use. The software mearly allows you to access the cars master selections and fault codes menu.

Let's call it altering (factory) preferences or presets.

If you do change any preferences, do the changes ever get put back to their defaults after a service at BMW?

Good question. I suspect not as the service would only look for faults that had been logged. It is quite possible that if they were to update the onboard software then this could reset the preferences to market default and in those cases you'd just recode again. Only time will tell

Speaking to a friend on the weekend. Apparently Autoclassic can code a list of defaults for you... "for a fee" of course!

I'd be pretty keen on turning ASS off as a default.
