Dinantronics Stage 1 being installed Now on my 435i!
I'm sitting over at Momentum BMW here in Houston having the installation performed. I'm looking forward to getting it on the road to see if it is worthwhile. I have a feeling a it will be but I'll try to be as objective as I can. Unfortunately, I have not had a baseline dyno run done so there won't be any before/after sheets to look at. I'll have to trust my butt.

I had this done to my 435i a few weeks ago. Expensive yes, but no regrets. I posted my own thread about it, but my performance increase was very nice and definitely noticeable. Knocked off at least half a second on 0-60.

I left with the car an hour ago, let it warm up, then played around a little in Normal, Sport, then Sport+. FELT NOTHING.
I might as well have purchased a neat looking "M" badge for $2,400. I'm back at Momentum BMW having them figure out if the software load failed or something isn't connected properly. |

Half second on 0-60 is very decent. No harm in having software checked. they added harness and usually get confirmation of software upload through the ECU. Correct?

The other thing that is bothersome.....WHY is it so hard to connect this thing so it works correctly?? You're not the first one who's written with issues. I hope they find the problem for your sake.....please keep us posted. |

This is why the bms stage 1 is perfect. You install it yourself so no one else is going to screw something up and you know it has been installed correctly. It's $379 and takes 10 minutes to uninstall. Plus it has equal or better performance then the danin

I wonder if I was expecting too much. Maybe it is more powerful but delivered so smoothly that I am not noticing it as much as I hoped. I don't want to discourage others but I am not yet convinced.
I'll be using the M app to measure against my times from last weekend playing around. At least that way I have something to go on. I know a dyno would have been far better but I simply do not have the the time right now. |

Remember you are not paying $2000 for the extra power but for the extra warranty.

Just my 2cents dinan is very underwhelming from a complete start and has a slight lag. Almost had buyers remorse due to this, I guess it's the whole "smooth" factor. Trust me though the power is there, it's more pronounce when the car is actually running and you just rip her up! Try that, if you still don't feel it then yea someone fucked up the install

The 335 and 435 are heavy cars (not like the M235) and laws of physics dictate and object at rest etc.... Did you look at your sport gauges?

It's kinda crazy that it's so hard to tell if it's installed. When I installed the bms stage 1 I was like "holy shit", with a smile ear to ear. Last edited by Buckeyes; 02-26-2015 at 07:29 AM.. |

The difference in weights aren't too far apart.

I took the car out for a little playing around last night and it really did seem to have improved significantly compared to earlier in the day. I was losing traction even more easily in places I normally would not, and the car does accelerate harder than before. Now that I can fully open it up it is apparent.
I still expected more. An advertised ~395 lb/ft of torque set some expectations that I'm not sure have been met. I'll play around more as there was improvement over the course of the day so maybe I will find more of an improvement today. |

This sounds very much like my experience with the MPPK. No noticeable difference at low speeds/revs, where the NA/turbo difference really cries out for some additional pep. Ultimately, a bit more power/torque at higher speeds simply isn't very noticeable to the casual butt dyno.

doesnt that dinan only give like 30-40 hp? is that calculated at the crank or at the wheel? because if its at the wheel, then the power bump is less. But even at 30hp, my BMS tune is supposed to give about the same.....i do feel it, but its VEEERRRYYY slight
They should have ran a base dyno, especially if you're paiyng $2500 for the kit. I understand you're paying that much for the "warranty" but doesnt warranty also mean it should be working? plus im curious to know how much of the warranty money actually is needed, i bet like 20-30% of it is pocket money. anyway, another factor is the system may not be ready. what I mean by that is, i know the BMS tune doesnt activate until the engine is at optimal temperature. maybe your engine wasnt fully warmed up?

And an M235 is only less than 100 lbs. lighter than a 3/4-Series. That's less than a tank of gas. |

As to the other statement from my car mechanic I believe his point was that the power band begins a bit higher than standing. You can check the curves on the Dinan site for exact chart. Why are you jumping on my comments? I don't drive while staring at the tachometer. The OP had some concerns about his engine tune and I was giving some input not an affidavit.

Or a change from RFTs to PSS away (savings in unsprungweight x8).

Hah, yeah...the M235's tires alone are worth a total of 14 or so lbs. over the 3/4-Series. Weight wise, they're significantly closer than their difference in size would indicate. An M235i looks like the illegitimate child of a 435i M-Sport who should have left it in a little longer.
