F30/F31 Lift the wiper arms - video
This is a nice video to show how to set the wiper in vertical position:
(In case you don't understand Thai, you may mute the volume) |

I scratched the inside of my hood when I first got the car. "RTFM" really doesn't apply to this. Dealer should tell u when you pick it up. My prior two cars were a 2009 e90 and a 2001 A4, and my wife had a 2010 and now 2013 Outback, none of which require any prep to get wipers up. While some modern cars may, I'm sure the vast majority of cars don't. I'm a bright guy and would never have thought to look in manual to lift the freakin wiper blades.

Well I've learnt something! I've never owned a car before with this "feature". I did wonder why it was so hard to clean the windscreen when I was washing the car, at least now I know. Thanks Serpent, couldn't understand a word but at least the pictures were good

Thanks guys.
Totally agree that this procedure is unusaul. But BMW have this wiper design in both F30 and F10 series too. Same kind of questions were raised in the F10 forum. At least we know how to do it now. Cheers, Serpent |

whoever wrote the owners manual should be shot...
Here's my F30 manual for my new 2014 328i. I'm thinking any reasonable person would turn on their car, then turn it off for step 1). How the f*** else would you interpret step 1) ?
I tried it with the engine off. I try it by starting the car, then turning it off before trying step 3). Same thing each time: the wipers simply come on and continue to wipe my dry dirty windshield. Great... ruining my blades and scratching the dry glass. Says to hold it past the resistance point, which I am doing. Almost broke the f***** lever going past resistance point (How do you measure going past resistance point anyways?). Says to hold it 3 seconds or more. I could hold it there for 3 hours and it would simply wipe until the battery dies. Solution? Let ME write the f***** manual. Here's what worked: 1) Press Lock button on remote 2) Press Unlock button on remote 3) Then do the 3-second lever thing Last edited by squidlyboy; 11-01-2014 at 09:27 PM.. |

I agree. Hate this procedure. I've already scratched the hood and not very amused. And yes I did rtfm but it didn't work for me after multiple tries

To add to the above comment, I live in an area where snow is a way of life five months a year and need to have the wipers lifted at my office or they will be stuck on the windshield when I want to go home. Imagine my frustration on a daily basis...

I too could see this pissing me off if i had to do this every time i had to drive after a night of snow. Currently i lift it up just enough to get a towel in there to do most of the cleaning without having to do this process.

Or did a basic Google search. The internet's not new anymore people... There's a whole world of information out there at your fingertips. This thread alone was started in 2012. |

I'm hip. Long before I bought I researched. Part of that process was viewing all of the BMW instructional videos. The first time was out of curiosity about the workings of the car. After I'd decided to buy I watched them all two or three more times so I'd be familiar with it before I drove it. There's got to be more to it than 'press the start button and go' when the manual is over 200 pages.

I just went through this process a week ago. YouTube was painful to get a hit on decent video. Popped the manual open that I finally received, and flipped few pages and figured it out 4 tries later lol.
Than I had a bitch of a time to put the bosh ikon on... f32 drivers side... good thing I bought it at Canadian tire and just drove few feet to their mechanic shop lol... dude just squished that sucker in 👀 |

Unless the film wraps past/under the edge of the hood it won't help much, unfortunately.
